Welcome to Anna's Caring Bridge website. We will post occasional health updates for anyone who would like them. If you’re not familiar with Caring Bridge, it’s a simple, free website for this purpose. Anna was admitted to the Causeway Hospital on the 29th of May with a heart condition called atrial fibrillation. This is a side effect of her aortic valve getting stiff and not working as it should. Atrial fibrillation is an irregular, sometimes very fast heart rate that can cause you to get heart failure. The atria, the heart’s upper chambers, beat out of sync with the ventricles, the lower chambers of the heart. This causes Anna to feel short of breath, anxious, extremely tired and weak. This happens because of not enough blood flow. Her Doctor prescribed medicines to help control her heart rate and to help her shift the fluid which she is retaining in her legs. This fluid builds up as the blood backs up in the veins because her heart is not beating adequately. Anna's Doctor says that she is remarkable for her age. 2nd July after the medical treatment Anna was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast. 9th July, she had an aortic valvuloplasty to widen her aortic valve. Sh is recuperating in the Causeway hospital.
