On September 14, 2021 I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, the most common form of breast cancer. A biopsy that was done showed cancer in the left breast as well as at least one lymph node.

Because I also have kidney disease, my diagnostic options are a bit limited and I couldn’t have an MRI but could do a PET scan which was completed on September 27. The results show that the cancer hasn’t spread beyond the left breast and four lymph nodes. The treatment team is recommending surgery, chemo and radiation, in that order. Because of the location of the tumor, lumpectomy isn’t an option.

Tomorrow, I will meet with a plastic surgeon, Dr. Breit (the 2nd one because I didn’t love the 1st one) and hopefully be setting up a surgery date soon. I have found out that my definition of soon is not the same as the doctors involved! Maybe I’ll learn to have more patience but it isn’t looking too promising. I have every weekend planned between now and the middle of October with Homecoming, weddings and paddle fishing so at least I’ll be busy if they’re slow!

I look forward to having a plan, being in limbo is not my style for anything.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. I have given my mom, Erin and Willy permission to post on here so hopefully you hear from someone fairly regularly!
