***See WAYS TO HELP link for additional information on supporting Angel.*** As you all know, Angel has been through a whirlwind last year battling and beating cancer and undergoing surgery and going through chemotherapy and radiation in the midst of the pandemic. Your support, love and prayers were a tremendous help to get her through it all!
This week Angel is facing new challenges. She was admitted to the hospital on Sunday, January 17th at Lakeview hospital, with severe back pain to the point it impaired her walking. The MRI found a soft tissue compression on her spine T1 - T3 which was causing numbness in her upper torso, legs, and down into her calves, feet, and toes . They immediately transferred her in an Acadian ambulance to a top neurosurgeon at Tulane Medical Center to perform emergency spinal surgery to remove the mass on Wednesday, January 20th. We are waiting for the pathology report to confirm what type of tissue it is and how to proceed with next steps. The doctor mentioned treating the remaining abnormal cells with radiation after she recovers.
Good news, she is out of the ICU in a step down care unit at Tulane hospital and awaiting transfer into an inpatient rehabilitation center. There she will begin physical therapy to regain her independent mobility. At this time, we do not know how long her recovery will take. The doctor said it could take up to 6 weeks. In her current location, no visitors are allowed due to COVID phase 1 restrictions.
We ask that you keep Angel and her beautiful children lifted up in prayer! We, her family, and Angel will keep everyone updated on her progress using this Caring Bridge platform. We prefer not to share this on Facebook. We appreciate your continued love, support and words of hope and encouragement during this difficult time. Thank you for visiting. ***See WAYS TO HELP link for additional information on supporting Angel.***
