Dear Friends-The kids and I figure it was time to create a centralized page in regards to Andrew's care, needs etc.
As some of you already know, in May of 2015, Andrew was diagnosed with a very rare (like 30,00 in the World type rare) degenerative, neurological disease called Adrenomyloneuropothy, or AMN for short. We noticed back then a change in his gait and in his walking. We thought it would be a gradual decline or were really hoping for no further decline at all. It is impossible to determine how this disease will progress. The last two years there has been a slow, continual decline in motor function for him, specifically in his walking as this disease effects the nervous system. During this time he has battled some Depression and Anxiety. The last three months, the disease has progressed very rapidly. He is now unable to work, has a very difficult time walking and his speech is affected. He has a difficult time controlling motor function. He is using a wheelchair at this point to get around. His need for more care than I and the kids can give is approaching. The kids and I cherish your prayers for him and us. This has been beyond difficult and not something you ever imagine happening to your sweet dad and husband. My kids are amazing humans and have been incredible through this all. Their strength, character, patience and love for their dad and me has been an incredible thing to watch. I am a blessed woman. Many have asked how they can help. Besides prayer, which is a huge one. He loves to have visitors. I am gone all day and he is home. The future for us is really scary and our family has had some very dark days recently but the light that always shines through is our community of friends and family. I really mean it when I say that I SERIOUSLY could not have made it to this point without you all. Thank you we are humbled. There has been so much love and care poured out on us already. This has been a really long, exhausting and difficult road already and we know its not over but you all remind us of the Goodness of God and that He is holding us all in his hand.We love you all so very, very very muchAndrew, Dana, Courtney, Derek, Kelsey, Davin and Lu.
