Andrew was diagnosed with AML on 11/17/2020 with a NUP98-NSD1 mutation. He had a bone marrow transplant on 4/8/2021 and was in remission until 10/12/21, at which time his cancer relapsed. On 11/3/21 Andrew started on a trial drug called SNDX-5613 at MD Anderson in Houston Texas. Andrew has been staying with either Lia or Kyle at the Smith house in Houston since that time. Andrew had his 2nd transplant in June of 2022. Andrew has been back in school at the University of St Thomas studying biochemistry. On 6/22/23 Andrew had his one year biopsy which showed no evidence of cancer! Throughout this journey, many Saints have been invoked for their prayers, with a special connection to Blessed Carlo Acutis.
