Welcome to our CaringBridge site. Andre's story began in November 2013 immediately following the death of his younger sister, Niecie. He spent two weeks in a Texas hospice facility with her until she succumbed to breast cancer.  It was very heart wrenching for him. Niece was only a year younger than Andre and they were very close. And, she became the fourth of Andre's seven siblings to die at a fairly young age.

Andre returned to Nebraska shortly after his sister's funeral but something just wasn't right. He couldn't sleep many nights and began to have shortness of breath. At first, we attributed this to stress but soon realized it was much more serious.

We made a doctor's appointment with a cardiologist and about 10-15 minutes into the appointment, the doctor told him he was very sick and needed to go home, pack his bags and get to the hospital immediately. The next thing doctors tell us is that he needs a heart failure team because his heart and kidneys are in very bad shape. We had no idea what this all meant. Then the words heart and kidney transplant enter the conversation. I will never forget that feeling of helplessness and desperation.  Our world has been turned upside down and so our  journey begins.
