Andrea Gan

Born April 18, 1940, Andrea is a mother of 7 children, Margie (Paul Pitrone), Angeline (Mike Brown), Richard (deceased), Irving (Larra Mateo), Oscar (Joyce Gan), Geraldine (Ambler Vargas) and Amy Nathalie (Kevin Ostrow). Our name spells out our dad's name Mario Gan- memory aid.  She also has several grandchildren, Megan, Brandon, Nico, Andrew, Jenna, Aidan, Mya, Odin, Jaden, Olivia, Alani, Samantha and Alaya (last but not least).  13- bakers' dozen. Makes sense.


On Friday 12/1/2017, mom suffered a "medium" stroke at about 7am.  She had just met up with her neighbor, Buck, approximately at 6am or 7am. It was not long after that she realized she was having a stroke. She stayed outside her apartment until a neighbor saw her appearing disoriented and called it in. An officer BOB Hunt was in the area and responded to the call. He recognized her as she is friends with his dad Ted (her partner in crime).  He called for the ambulance and stayed with her at the ER to make sure she was ok. Bob was also the one who called my sisters Amy and Geri. It was fortunate that this occurred within a short amount of time and she was able to be attended to swiftly.


Mom's stroke has affected her ability to communicate and affected her right side the most.  Initially, she could not speak and move her hand; however, she could walk with assistance. She is at the Shady Grove Adventist Acute Rehab facility now where she was discharged to in order to begin speech, occupational and physical therapies. She continues to improve everyday. Throughout this incident, she has remained positive. Her situation may have robbed her of her speech temporarily but it surely has not robbed her of her sense of humor.
