Amy Rogers Just another adventure!

First post: May 5, 2017 Latest post: Jul 6, 2017
Amy is my mom and has been the best mother anyone could have.  I say this as I have had her by my side for 36 years now.  She has been through all sorts of trials and tribulations, whether it is family oriented, medical issues or just day to day living.  On April 20, 2017 Mom was diagnosed with a squamous cell carcinoma which isn't actually on her skin as most of this type is usually located.  A lymph node was found to be cancerous and has been removed which is how the diagnosis was achieved.  She is working with Oncologists in Sylacauga who are confident they can solve this unique diagnosis.   The good news so far is that prior to the diagnosis she had gone through of the genetic markers for cancer and they all came back negative.  She also went through upper/lower GI to rule out any colon cancer.  Of course with diagnosis comes all of the usual tests.  The PET scan showed markers with higher levels below the waist and only there which is what lead to the removal of that Lymph node.  On Tuesday May 2, the port was inserted which will allow for chemotherapy treatment.  According to the doctors she will receive treatment every 21 days, for approximately 6-8 months. Every time she goes for treatment it will be a six hour session.  Then 7 days later she will go back for blood draws to check cell counts, and then again 8 days later and then on the 21st day, the cycle will begin once again.  We are confident that the doctors will figure this out and Mom and Dad are staying strong and continuing to work in the yard and do what they enjoy doing.  This will allow both of them of maintain a sense of normalcy which is what is instructed to do during this time of treatments.

I (Bradley), will be the author of this page and keep everyone updated as we have updates.  Your kind words will be passed on to Mom and Dad as they come in.  I look forward to hearing from all of you as we take another step in this adventure known as LIFE!
