Amie Hyman Amie's Cancer Journey

First post: 8/25/2017 Latest post: 9/19/2017
Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.  Amie had breast cancer in 1998. She had radiation, chemotherapy and a lumpectomy and had a full recovery.  A few weeks ago, Amie became ill and was coughing up blood. After a chest  x-ray, CT Scan, Pet Scan, Pulmonary Function test and Bronchoscopy,  Stage 3 lung cancer was diagnosed.  Amie has a mass on her lung which has caused the lung to collapse. The cancer is in the lymph nodes including lymph nodes right outside the lung. It has not spread to other major organs.  We do not yet know what type of lung cancer it is or what the treatment will be.  We will know a lot more this coming week.
I would like friends and family to send prayers and good thoughts to Amie at or 304 Glenwood Road, Willow Springs, Illinois 60480.  You are welcome to deliver low fat, high nutrition meals to Amie and Tim when she starts treatment.  I will set up a meal system on this website later so that she can be taken care of by friends and family during times when she will be unable to cook.  She may also need help being driven to doctor appointments and treatment.
Please consider being on Amie's care team. Please post your name, phone number and email address here on this website if you are willing to be a food preparer/deliverer and/or one to drive Amie to appointments.  We are also accepting donations because Amie's insurance deductible, especially for out of network care, is outrageous. There will be more about that later.
We will post updates about her diagnosis and prognosis on this website, as well as updates about her condition and well-being.  Amie is a fighter and a survivor and she will do everything she can to fully recover.  Please reach out to her in any way you can. Love, Karmit (Amie's loving sister)
