AMELIE LUCIA-GRACE was born on 9/19/13. She was a normal, healthy pregnancy born at 9 lb. 2 oz.; She suffered severe oxygen deprivation (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy) caused by Cord Prolapse that occurred when Amelie's amniotic sac was broken by our doctor prematurely ( head not fully engaged). Doctors fought to revive & resuscitate Amelie for 10 minutes post emergency C-section birth. She was rushed from Stillwater Lakeview Hospital to Children's in St. Paul where doctors 'froze her' for 3 days to save her brain & organs that were shut down. Hypothermic Cooling is a revolutionary treatment that was just approved in the U.S. in 2007. Amelie also endured & overcame secondary complications due to airway inflammation from a ventilator tube being placed that was too big, 2 secondary respiratory failures, Bronchoscopy surgery & Pneumonia. She had difficulty swallowing due to airway inflammation & was in the NICU, unable to orally feed for 4 weeks. At 4 weeks old, she surprised us all with her amazing ability to breastfeed & go home at 5 weeks. OUR LIL' FIGHTER overcame all odds & continues to do so developmentally. She is not showing any signs of Cerebal Palsy or Epilepsy which is very common for severe oxygen deprived babies who survive. We knew we had another miracle on the way, but little did we know just what a true miracle & fighter our baby girl was & continues to be! She has seen the white light of God & the angels, hence her middle name which means, LIGHT of GOD. We love you our precious Lucia-Grace....
