Hi, this is Dave Hassett, proud husband of Alicia Campbell and father to our 10-year-old daughter Maggie. Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated by posting news in one place.
Most of you know that Alicia is being treated for Stage 4 cancer at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The skilled doctors there have made a decision that the primary source of her cancer is gynecological and we are grateful that her chemotherapy treatments will begin very soon.  Whatever form of cancer is in Alicia is aggressive and complicated and not easy to pinpoint. So far it has spread secondarily to a number of her internal organs.
One of the sites of Alicia's cancer is in her back and has caused her an unusual amount of discomfort. The medications she currently takes to help her feel comfortable make it impossible for her to walk far or drive. She is still unable to sit comfortably for any stretch of time  Our hope is that once the chemo has begun, Alicia will enjoy immediate relief.
As you can imagine, this sudden illness has turned our three lives upside down. We are grateful for all of the donations of food, gifts, cards, prayer shawls and time that our family, friends, colleagues and neighbors have given to us. We need nothing at this time but your positive thoughts, wishes of strength & hope and prayers for healing and pain relief.
Maggie asked me the other day after we returned from Roswell, "Dad, mom is the one who always takes care of us. Who is going to take care of her?" I will show Maggie this page sometime soon so she can see with her own eyes: we have a LOT of people taking care of Mom. It was helpful for us to explain to Maggie that Alicia was successfully treated for cancer in 2002 at the very same hospital she is being treated at now.
Please use this site to send messages to Alicia, Maggie and me. We don't need money. We have plenty of food (although I am told that a meal reservation calendar has been activated on the "Planner" tab found in the "More Ways To Help" section). If we need anything at all other than good wishes I will post updates here.
Alicia currently has very limited energy and as a result cannot see the many people who would like to visit. She misses all of you and she looks forward to visits when her energy increases and her pain subsides.
We hope this site will be helpful for managing visits when possible (ideally in the very near future).
We love you all. We thank you for your support.
Love, Alicia, Dave & Maggie
