Welcome to Alyssa's CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
In November of 2015, Alyssa discovered a lump on her left breast. A biopsy in December revealed that she had breast cancer. Alyssa and Fred journeyed to Mayo Clinic in January where they had a consultation with their oncology team. After a biopsy of a few additional areas of concern, it was determined that the cancer had spread outside of the margins.
Although this was not the news they wanted to hear, they are so grateful for a thorough care plan right from the start. At the recommendations discussion on January 28, 2016, it was determined that a double mastectomy is the best course of action for Alyssa due to her age, size of tumor and unclear margins of the cancer.
Surgery was Tuesday, February 9, 2016. They returned back on February 18th to discuss post-surgery treatment with the oncology team. Another meeting with the oncology team on March 10th determined next steps.
