Welcome to my father Al's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Al suffered a very severe stroke on Friday 10/13/17.  The stroke was in the left side of the brain, and affects the right side of his body as well as his speech ability (aphasia).  Al's case is complicated because he had just had brain surgery the day before the stroke. Four weeks ago he fell and hit his head on the right side, resulting in a subdural hematoma. It did not drain as they hoped & was pressing against his brain, so they installed temporary drainage tubes through two burr holes.  That procedure was successful, but the next day a blood clot in the left side (caused by an intracranial artery stenosis) caused the stroke. The doctors successfully removed the blood clot, but they cannot not treat the stroke with major blood thinners because it might cause the subdural hematoma to bleed again. He is receiving excellent care in Neurological ICU at Harborview Hospital. We appreciate your support, encouragement and prayers.

P. S. I think this goes without saying, but please don't visit without checking with our family (me, Ann or Jane) first. Thank you so much for your understanding.
