Alex White

First post: Jul 14, 2017
Alex has a type of MS that has been progressing rapidly, leaving him in need of much help, good thoughts, visits, and prayers.

After a three-month stay in the hospital, rehab center and nursing home, Alex is happy to be back in the comfort of his own home.  His mom is doing a remarkable job of loving her son and managing the nearly impossible logistics involved with his care.  Alex's positive outlook and attitude are absolutely incredible. While attitude is so important, it may not be enough to get him through this difficult stage.  Mass Health evaluated Alex and approved him for only 9 hours of help/care each day, which is not enough. Alex requires 24-hour care, therefore he will have to supplement this costly expense.  While he has some incredibly loyal caretakers on his team, he needs more caring and reliable caregivers!!!

How can his friends and relatives help?

-  Do you know anyone with Person Care Assistant (PCA) experience or perhaps a student studying physical therapy or nursing, that is interested in a position? If so, please encourage them to get in touch ASAP.

 -  If anyone has experience navigating  Mass Health Care/ the system to see if their assessment of his care can be appealed to get Alex more help, this is something that could help him afford care longer and give his mind, heart, and bank account some relief.

-  Can someone help research a device that would allow him to use his computer and phone to access the internet independently, perhaps using his voice?
Alex used to enjoy the time he spent on his computer, this was his window to the world offering him independence,  access to information, the internet and communication with his friends and family.   His hand movements are very limited now thus not enabling him to use his laptop or phone without help.  This is essential for his morale and quality of life.

-   Alex welcomes visitors. He enjoys company and good laughs. His address is: 4 Summit Drive Apt #007  Reading, MA.  If you have access to the lockbox and use the key- please make sure it's returned so the next PCA can use it to get in. If the key is not in there, press #007 and his PCA will buzz you in. Problems or questions,  text his mom with your ETA and she'll let his PCA know to expect you. Her number is 781.710.4550.

Let's rally around and support Alex!
