Alex has a brain tumor.  On Sunday, April 29, 2018, after a week of non-specific fatigue and reduced sensation on his right side (progressing over a week to affect his leg, arm, and face including affecting his speech), Alex was taken to the ER at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek.  Within an hour, Alex was admitted to the Hospital and a CT brain scan indicated that he had a 1-inch tumor on his left side with surrounding swelling and inflammation.  The swelling around the tumor was causing his symptoms.   On Monday, April 30th, after confirming  with an MRI, Dr. Merkow, the John Muir neurosurgeon, recommended Alex be transferred to the Neurosurgery Unit at the UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco for further tests and consultation.
