Al Cairo - first update 3/17/16By Albert Cairo (http://www.caringbridge.org/profile/32799272) — Mar 17, 2016 3:18pm

Thank all of you who have already contacted me with positive thoughts and prayers. It makes a person feel good to know that so many people are concerned. The basic story is that I was being treated for acid reflux of sorts for several weeks. There were improvements along the way as well as setbacks. We decided to do a EGD scope. That was done on 3/7/16 including a biopsy on a tumor found in the lower esophagus. On 3/9/16 the doctor notified me that the tumor was cancerous. He referred me to an oncologist at Pro Health/University of Wisconsin cancer hospital, which is also a teaching hospital. They ordered a CT scan for 3/10/16. On 3/11/16 I met with the Oncologist, and he laid out a basic treatment plan, including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery followed by more chemotherapy. The oncologist ordered a PET Scan and an ultra sound for 3/16/16, in order to get a broader picture of the problem. I have a meeting with the oncologist later today. He will probably have the treatments in place for next week.
I will post an update in the next day or two with more treatment details.
Thanks again for the great thoughts and prayers, God bless you all,
Big Al
