Alan Palmer

Alan Palmer, (the unelected mayor of Harbor Country) is one of the most loved men that I have ever known. This is with good reason. I have been lucky enough to be Alan's sponsor, and have gotten to see the beauty inside this man. Recently, Alan has been  diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic lung cancer, non small cell. He has been accepted into a clinical trial at the University of Chicago. Alan will need assistance with transportation, but most of all he needs to hear from friends and family. I will be posting Alan's status on this site.  Alan had a hard week last week. Tuesday he had minor foot surgery, Wednesday he had a colonoscopy, Thursday he had his prep work done at the University of Chicago, where he is participating in a clinical trial. This included creating a body cast to enable precision radiation treatments, some sort of chemo cocktail, and a Immunotherapy treatment. Alan will go every day this week for precision radiation treatments addressing the various tumors in his body. He will go again all of next week. Bill and friends have volunteered to drive him to his appointments. He has more volunteers then days (as you would expect). Then I believe that there will be an assessment of his condition. Alan is a Trooper. He seems to have his good and bad days. The bad ones are not as bad as I would have guessed. Alan is using the program and other tools he has learned in AA to practice acceptance, which I believe is difficult under present circumstances. There is one minor bright spot. He was told to gain 5 lbs. He must eat a minimum of 2000 calories per day. He is monitoring his calorie intake. Alan cannot accept visitors due to his compromised immune system, he is often too tired to talk on the phone, but he would love to hear from everyone by text, email or on this site. I'm sure that I have left something out. I will update more often.
