Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Alan was diagnosed with cirrhosis in August of 2017. Initially he did well, but as the year came to a close he began to have more symptoms and in January of 2018 he was hospitalized for the second time. He had more hospitalizations in February and April. At the end of April, his doctors decided to transport him from Northside Hospital to the University of Alabama Birmingham transplant hospital. They felt he needed to be worked up right away as he was quite sick and in desperate need of a liver transplant. He was there for a week and underwent many, many tests in order to be considered to be listed for transplant. The transplant committee has since discussed his case twice, and they have determined that an additional test, and possibly a surgical procedure are necessary before he could be listed. Through this all, Alan has remained upbeat and positive. Even on the days that he is feeling sick and tired, he has faith that God will get him through this and make us both better people in the end! People always ask what they can do. So many wonderful people at my school, friends and family care about Alan! At this point, the only thing we really need is prayer! Prayer for strength, for healing and most of all for him to be listed for transplant! Thank you so much. I will update as soon as I have any new information. Right now our next visit is 6/6 at UAB for a clinic visit and hopefully the tests.
