Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Alan experienced cardiac arrest around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16.  He and Kit (and Opus and River) were staying at the Hyatt Hotel in Albuquerque, NM, where they had been hiking in preparation for a trip to Patagonia in February.  After being resuscitated, Alan was transported to University of New Mexico Medical Center and admitted to the medical ICU.  He has been receiving excellent state-of-the-art treatment there, with therapeutic hypothermia, sedation, endotracheal tube, etc. along with continual testing and constant monitoring.  While he was minimally responsive at first, he awoke during the first night and was awake enough the next morning to squeeze a hand and to know  who was speaking to him. Family members quickly arrived and have surrounded him with love and encouragement while he continues to fight, one day at a time.
