Welcome to our CaringBridge site. After a routine chest x-ray in April, Addison was diagnosed with an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) of her heart. It is a congenital heart defect that she was born with, however, is often not detected until later in life.  The hole is causing swelling on the right side of her heart so it was determined that surgery to repair the hole would be necessary and the sooner the better as she is young, healthy and considered low risk at this time.  We will be traveling down to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Tuesday, July 26, for routine pre-op appointments and her surgery is scheduled for the next day on July 27 at St. Mary’s Hospital (associated with the Mayo Clinic). She will be in the hospital anywhere from 5-10 days and then home to recover for approximately 4-6 weeks.  We started this CaringBridge site so that we are able to give updates about Addison, how her surgery goes and subsequent recovery. Thoughts and prayers are most appreciated during this time.  Thank you, Steve, Karen, Addison and Logan
