Achilles our little boy is once again facing a big fight for his health. On Monday morning he woke up at 3am and just seemed not himself. We figured it was just a ear infection break through after he got his ear tubes. His temperature was 99.9 so we gave him Tylenol and he seemed ok. Every once in awhile throughout the day he would start coughing, gagging, and drooling. As the day progressed it got worse till at 3:30pm he had a couple bad coughing spells to the point he was not getting enough air so we gave him a breathing treatment. He could no longer swallow and was drooling all the time. We decided I would take him to the er because we thought he was choking. When I got there they quickly took him back without checking him in. The did more breathing treatments and X-rays. The X-rays showed a swollen epiglottis. It is rare but a medical emergency as it can close the airway at any moment. They sedated him and intubated him for transfer in the er. Mike was able to make it there to have us follow the ambulance down to Nationwide Childrens hospital in Columbus. Here they have been doing a lot of testing, cultures. They are trying to get him the right combination of sedated and happy but not too sedated because then his bp goes way down. He is negative for Covid 19. He is positive for a common coronavirus that has been around for a long time. The ct shows some fluid collection that is probably pneumonia.
Our main concern is for answers where the infection is coming from. We are still waiting on cultures.
He is on 40% oxygen and needs to stay calm and let the machine do it’s work.
Please pray that he can feel a calmness.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and concern for our little lion. We never thought we would be back here. Give all your little ones an extra hug tonight.

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. On Monday at 1:05 am our little boy came into the world at just 28weeks 1day gestation. Achilles Alexander Stacklin weighed in at 3lb 1.4oz and 15.75in long. He will have a long stay in the NICU ahead of him. In the first two days he has done wonderful. He was off ventilator in the first day and off cpap the second day. We hope he continues to do so well and doesn't have many set backs. Prayers for little man and and us as we go through the next couple weeks are appreciated.
