Welcome to Abby's CaringBridge page. We are thankful that God has protected Abby and baby girl through a traumatic pregnancy and sudden delivery. We ask for continued prayers as Abby moves forward at home and baby girl, Joanna Ember Rose, starts life with her Forever Family in Iowa.

The story as it started: Please keep praying for Abby and her baby girl! Abby's due date is December 23.

Abby has placenta previa (the placenta is covering the birth canal) and the placenta is about 2x the size it should be for this gestational age. This is a dangerous situation. If Abby goes into labor or starts to bleed, she could bleed out and die within 5 minutes. There is evidence that the placenta has already been compromised. For this reason, Abby must stay close to the hospital. She is currently living with her Aunt Mary Jo and Uncle Al in Sioux Falls.

There are also major concerns for the baby.  The doctors have given less than 50% chance of life for this little one.
-> Baby's size is very small (only in the 1% bracket) for it's gestational age.
-> there is only 1 artery (usually 2) in the umbilical cord - this could be part of the reason for the small size - lack of adequate blood flow to the baby.
-> the baby has fluid in its abdomen, which is indicative of probable heart problems.

What can you do?
**Please continue to pray for Abby- that she does not go into labor or start bleeding in any way. Pray for her mentally as she struggles with the unknowns of this pregnancy.
**Pray for this baby girl- that she keeps growing and that the fluid in her belly disappears and that her life may be spared.
**Pray for the Doctors- that they give appropriate support and encouragement to Abby.

This site will be updated weekly after Abby's weekly ultra-sound appointments, or more often as needed.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! Abby's Mom- Su Sybesma
