Abigail Warren Shimmer and Shine for

Most folks are familiar with Abby's drowning accident in 2013.  What most don't realize is that Abby's health concerns began in her first few months of life.  An odd reaction to a vaccine, seizures, regressions, severe illnesses including a Leukemia scare in 2012 (age 1).  Her drowning episode occurred in 2013 at age 2 (we were told she made a complete recovery from this).  By this point, we realized Abby was falling behind her peers in development.  Doctors assured us it was due to her on-going illnesses and she would catch up.  At age 3, her illnesses continued and she was diagnosed with PFAPA (we aren't sure about the validity of this diagnosis).  She had surgery to remove tonsils and adenoids at age 4, severe skin infections, requiring minor surgery, a complete re-vaccination due to non-existent antibodies in the summer of 2016.  From this point forward to about 6 months, Abby experienced a major quiet spell in illnesses and made amazing growth in development.  For the first time ever, a calm settled over our entire family in the absence of continued blood draws, testing, and the worst part of the stress and heartbreak of seeing your child unwell and having no way to understand what’s going on, much less help.  This time was amazing.

In December of 2016, unfortunately, her health began to deteriorate again.  Now, from day to day, we never know what Abby is going to be dealing with, we've been back and forth to the doctor weekly for over a month now for different alarming issues.    It has been a very discouraging and frustrating time as we realized that whatever is causing her health issues is not resolved as we had previously hoped and believed.    You would never know if you saw her, as her bright personality continues to shine above all else, but for the past couple of months, Abby is a shell of herself. She's continuously running low grade fevers and completely exhausted, she tires easily doing things she's always loved to do for hours on end.  She's fighting battles local doctors haven't been able to pinpoint and this poor girl has seen many.  At her local doctors requests, we are so hopeful now, more than ever, that Mayo doctors will be able to not only pinpoint what is causing these flares of very concerning health issues, but be able to stop them so that Abby can reach her full potential in life.

Abby will check in with Dr. Amie E. Jones at Mayo Clinic Children's Center in Rochester, Minnesota on May 15th, 2017.  Dr. Jones will lead us through a long week of consultations and tests with many different specialists ending with a final consultation to review diagnosis(s) and long-term treatment plans.  We will be utilizing this site to keep you all updated through this process.   We thank you so much for your love, prayers and support of Abby and our family as we continued to walk this journey, while very difficult, still in full faith of God's will for Abby's path.

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
