Primary Objective of Position

The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for directing the financial, administrative and facilities functions of the organization. This position is an active partner with the executive team in driving strategic and operational plans, and requires forward-looking thinking and the ability to drive the organization’s strategic, financial and operational initiatives.

Highlights of Job Expectations:

  • Provides oversight of the organization’s financial management and all compliance needs; leading staff on day to day needs while moving organization forward on strategic initiatives.

  • Participates in determining long-term strategy, evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning; proposes ideas for new revenue streams or more cost effective avenues.

  • Manages banking relations, vendor relations, contract administration, accounting staff, finance and facilities.

  • Reviews and approves preparation, finalization, and distribution of monthly and annual financial statements and internal/external financial reporting.

  • Works closely with the CEO/Board of Directors/Board Treasurer to ensure appropriate financial management of the organization.

  • Manages legal and business risk.

  • Develops and monitors key indicators, prepares and/or reviews operational, project and departmental budgets, communicating underlying deviations on a timely basis.

  • Identifies key process improvement opportunities, driving the organization toward more scalable solutions.

  • Manages annual audit and relationship with auditors.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining internal controls.

Most Preferred Skills:

  • Highly process driven, seeking ways to expand and offer scale

  • Strong emotional intelligence and articulation, healthy confidence

  • Strong financial and business analytics and ideally some experience with customer relationship management systems and tools, customer segmentation and value analysis

  • Ability to be creative and persuasive; willing to stretch CEO and colleagues

  • A growth champion with some private equity experience and/or digital and/or M&A

Fundamental Skills:

  • 10 + years’ experience in accounting/finance

  • 7+ years’ experience in operations/operations finance/or execution of strategy

  • Experience in driving growth through collaboration with all functions

  • Experience managing a staff of 10 + including hiring, mentoring, and performance management

  • Experience leading annual financial audits, budgeting and forecasting, and with cash flow forecasting

  • Knowledge of GAAP

  • Knowledge of Fund Accounting

  • Consultative approach to work

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting; MBA preferred
