It is SO amazing to read such an inspiring story and it gives me hope for my baby girl born at 23 weeks 5 days on the 8th of August 2013. I hope I can look back in a few years and also have a happy ending!

I enjoyed reading your blog and viewing your pictures of your beautiful girls. As a mom to a former 24 wkr (now 13 yrs old), I felt myself reliving my own journey. Your journal was very touching. God bless you and your family.

God bless your girls. My sister just had identical girls - micro-preemies born at 24 weeks, they are only about 4 days old and although the road is long, I am grateful for finding your page and reading your story, it brings me a lot of joy to read it. I feel good - thank you. They are beautiful and once again God bless them!

Wow, I thought my twins, not identical, were born small at 3lbs 8 oz and 3lb 13 oz at 8:33 and 8:34PM on Nov 5, 2005.
My twins were only in the NICU for two weeks, Praise God.
Today, they are 2 years and 4 months and are always fighting for the same toy and my attention. Were your twins like that at 2 years old too?

Hello, my favorite Nieces! I guess we share another bond now, the great "Winter Flu" I'm so glad you both came to stay with us for the weekend but I'm so sorry you had to be sick... And even though I ended up sick too, I would'nt change it for the world! I loved cuddling with you both and having such special time together. Kim, although you had to miss some special time with Brian I'm glad you had time to get over "the Flu" alone and know the girls were taken care of; and you could just focus on taking care of you!
We treasure the time we have with you even if it may not be what most would see as "ideal" time. I think the best of relationships and bonding has to do with the "Good" and the "Bad". We had a great weekend! Love to you both, and hope you are feeling better! You too Kim, and Hope Daddy didn't get sick too.... See you On Christmas Day! God Bless....Love you much, Merry Christmas!

Hey Niehaus family! It was so incredible to see you all on Sunday. The girls were so cute and and we were so amazed at all they are doing. Walking and babbling and growing so much! It just makes your heart skip a beat when they smile at you and give you hugs! Love the hugs... They are the best tempered, good natured, easy going toddlers I've ever known, and it comes from you both, Kim and Brian. Through this entire journey from conception to their birth you have both been such pillars of strength and we admire you so much for that! Love to you all! And Gods blessings on your every day!

Hi there Kim and family. You have a couple of beautiful and healthy looking girls. It looks like they are having fun and are enjoying life. From where they started, they sure do look like they are thriving and very healthy. Seems like only yesterday when you started this web site. My daughter Sandy had twin boys at 28 weeks gest., weighing in at 2 lbs 2 oz and 2 lbs 4 oz. They are doing really great too. They have had just colds, runny noses and that is about it and seem very healthy too. Your girls are beautiful and you can count your blessings that everything has turned out great. Glad to see the pictures you have posted. That is so exciting. Your Mom and I will be getting together when they return to share photos and brag a lot. Anyway, thought I'd let you know how beautiful they are. Congrats.

It is conveyed in your photography .. that is the first thing that stands out when I looked at them. Thanks for sharing! Hi Kim, Brian, Brice, Lindsey and Sydney: I don't sign the guestbook very often, but I think of you often and read the updates. The new pictures are adorable. How about a family one....one more thing for you to do, as if you weren't busy enough. Thank you for taking the time to keep us informed. I just love it as does our whole family. Keep up the good work!!! Love, Marge K

Hello Niehaus family! The girls look awesome! They are starting to look more and more alike. As of now, it doesn't look like I will be able to make it to the NICU reunion. I'm disappointed--I was looking forward to seeing them again. I have a previously scheduled conference that I am registered for on that day. Keep up the good work Mom and Dad. Sydney and Lindsey are blessed with wonderful parents! Take care. Pamela Brands

Happy 3 month(Adjusted) Birthday Girls!
What a beautiful day, hope you were able to get out and enjoy it. Lovin' the new pictures, what cute bunnies you make Sydney and Lindsey!
I hope you have a great time this weekend Kim. Sounds like a great time, can I come too? Really, you deserve a time to relax. Being a stay-at-home mother is a full time job, with little break time. And we all can use time to refuel! So enjoy it and don't worry, you know Brian will be spoiling the girls in your absense.
A wonderful weekend to you all,
see you soon!

You sure have some cute bunnies in your neck of the woods. I trust everyone had a lot to eat and enjoyed the day as we did. Corrie had a chance to get home and even though the visit was short, it was wonderful. I'm looking forward to warmer weather and all the spring flowers. Good health to all!! Hope to see you soon.

Hello to all,
A whole six months old - a lot has happened in these first six months - but just think how strong you ALL have gotten. It's always such an incredible journey when a new life comes into the family, and yours has had many bumps and twists in the road - but it's nice to be on such a nice stretch now. Everything here is also going along quite smoothly. I'm looking forward to spring finally arriving. I like the flowers and greenery appearing in the yard again - you can only take so much brown. I trust you've informed the Easter Bunny of your new address. I'm thinking your little angels would have fun getting all dressed up in their new Easter dresses and bonnets. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for the updates.

Good evening Niehaus Family....
The kids and I had so much fun today! The girls just continue to change and somehow get even cuter with every visit! I enjoyed my bonding time with Sydney,as the majority of the times we've been there Chelsea always claims her! Well today I finally got my chance to really talk to her and spend some quality time, it was so much fun... I've nicknamed her "Chunky Monkey" because she's growing so good... Lindsey, Hope you had a fun "day outing" with mommy! But we missed spending time with you!
Have a great week, and keep on growing!
Love you lots and lots!!!

Another wonderful day spent with our 2 favorite nieces! (actually my only 2 "Nieces"). Even after a week, the girls had changed so much! Sydney and her chubby cheeks and Lindsey and those big beautiful eyes! We feel so blessed to be able be with them and watch them grow! This whole journey starting Oct.8th. to now has been undescribable...
So with camera in hand we go and spend time with "angels", capturing those little moments so they will be frozen in time! I hope one day they forgive me for blinding them so often with my flash, but my camera is my scrapbook...
God bless you Kim & Brian, keep doing what your doing! The girls are thriving and soon they will be sleeping and so will you both, all night, in the same bed! The girls will start smiling and cooing and you'll forget how tired you were! :)
Have a great weekend! All our love to you!

PS it is really OK to sleep like a whole six hours at one time, both of you at one time-that would be a really nice gift to give your Mom. Have a great day.

Good Morning!

It is so good to be back home to family and friends. We had a wonderful vacation in Florida but there is no place like home! I got to visit the girls on Saturday......what a fun day and oh how fast the time goes by!! It was such a joy to hold each of you again and my oh my how you've both grown!! Grandpa was so looking forward to visiting too but unfortunately some things came up on Sunday and we couldn't get there as you know. He will get there soon. It is good to hear that those little peanuts are starting to sleep longer(at least at times)so that the two of you can get some more sleep and/or accomplish some tasks. Look forward to seeing you all again soon. Hugs & Kisses..........

I wanted to say thank you for sharing your family's journey through this with us all. I was on the IASB board with you Kim, and started viewing the site when it first came online. After I got pregnant with twins and found delivery was imminent, it became a reminder that all could be ok. It became a sort of lifeline for me. It also helped prepare us for what lay ahead. I still go back and reread the girls' updates. I LOVE the pictures of you all. Best wishes to you all.

How fast the time passes when your having fun, right????
We enjoyed the new pictures of the girls and their brother so much! We are counting down the days to Friday, we are all in need of another baby day with you and the girls! We're already fighting over who gets who and who gets to change the diapers and feed and burp.... Some might say: "Get a life! Your idea of fun is changing diapers?" And we say: "A day well spent!" :)
Kisses to all, with lots of love!

Hello sweet Lindsey and precious Sydney-Happy first Friday home. I hope you two are doing good. I heard you had a special visitor today watching over you so your Mommy and Daddy could come to your baby shower. I believe it was Nurse Liz (I hope I got that right). See she already misses you. I sure had fun at your baby shower today-it was put on by some ladies your Daddy works with. The two of you will be all decked out in your new duds. Sweet dreams as you snuggle in for the weekend. Although that does bring up another thought: So much for sleeping in in the morning - well for about 8 years anyway. The girls are really looking good and everyone looks so happy in all the pictures. ...So often we look at a caledar of days as merely a symbol of the passage of time. We forget why we are here on this earth! We forget that there is a reason for all of the pain and all of the struggle. We forget that we were all put on earth to learn something. If everything were perfect in this life, we would never learn anything new. We would not be able to elevate our "Spirits" through the events that happen to us!
In these months that have passes so quickly, there has been lesson upon lesson we could learn from! From how fragile life can be, to the strength of the human spirit. We have followed you through your journey of infertility and joyous birth! As well as Sydney & Lindsey we have all grown so much inside! Thank you for sharing these special times with all of us! Hi to the Niehaus family!

One more day to go.....the day we have all been praying for is just about here. We will all be so happy when Lindsey and Sydney are at home with their mom, dad and brother. Praise be to God....he has watched over these little ones all this time and now it's time for them to go home. When they were first born it seemed like this day was so far away but it is just around the corner now. Love you all.

Hi to the Niehaus family!

We, too, are so thankful for the good word on Lindsey & Sydney's progress with their eyes. It was so wonderful for Dean & I to be able to hold them on Sunday. It is fun to talk with them when they are awake a bit more now. Dean "rarely" holds "babies"(he always says he'll wait til they're a little bigger). He is a pretty proud Grandpa!

Kim, want to say "thanks so much" for coming down this afternoon to help out with some of the financial stuff for our business. We sure do appreciate it! You have plenty to keep you busy these days with spending most of your waking hours at the hospital so we are especially grateful for your taking some time to help us out! See you tomorrow night. God Bless you all.

What fabulous news!! Bye-Bye (ROP)..... What a relief to have this worry off your minds. I really sympathize with your concern Kim of how much breast milk they get at a feeding! It is a hard thing when your used to being so precise.... Its got to be so fun to be able to interact with them finally and you'll never have to fight over who gets to hold them or bath them because you each get one all the time! What great times you have ahead of you! Keep up the great work...

Kim- I chatted with Brian for a few minutes this morning at work and mentioned that I went to a meeting last night for a group called "Twin Topics". It is similar to Mothers of Multiples. I had gone to a MOM's meeting in November, but found it intimidating and it felt really "clubby" to me. I liked this meeting last night of this other group - it felt a little better and much better organized. They had a panel of adult twin pairs there last night answering questions...pretty interesting. It just reminded me how unique and special identical twins are! Here is the link for their website: http://www.geocities.com/twintopics/
There is a big State Workshop coming up the end of April for people all over the state. I guess that they have great speakers and fun activities.....not sure if I'll go. I don't know anyone in the group yet since I just joined last night. Check it out if you're interested. Glad to hear that the girls are pluggin' along.....sounds like it won't be long now! Pretty exciting!

Dear Precious Little Great Granddaughters,
You've been in our thoughts and prayers since before you were born. We do not have a computer, but thanks to our daughter, your grandmother, we receive a daily report on your progress. She also has given me rides to come see you in the hospital. The last time I was there I held my hand on each of you, and I look forward to the day I can hold you in my arms. We hear from friends how preemies born into their families have grown to be health happy children. We pray that you both will do the same. We hear you're doing so well, you'll soon be going home. Oh Happy Day! Thanks to the doctors and nurses for their wonderful care and concern.
We Love You--

How exciting that the girls are finally back together! Isn't it a great feeling to see them all snuggled up in the same bed? I was going to send you the same advice about going out on a few "dates" before the girls come home! As a mom of twins, I know how life gets when there aren't any 24-hour babysitters on hand anymore! The last week or so that Colin and Caleb were in the hospital, we were just working on the feeding, too. (I was trying to only breastfeed-no bottles-with varied success) We finally made the tough decision to introduce the bottles and really work hard on the breastfeeding once we got home.......we just wanted them home SO bad! Within two or three days of starting bottles they were home! One piece of advice, don't let the doctors or nurses push you into anything you aren't ready for....it took me awhile to feel okay with the bottle thing even though a couple of the nurses had been trying to tell me it was time. You are the Mom and Dad and in the end you need to feel right about it! The day you take those little angels home will be SO exciting and also SO scary!!! I'm so happy that the homecoming is within sight!

Good afternoon Lindsey and Syndey just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I am thinking of you and I am so happy you two are doing so awesome. I went out at lunchtime today and it was frosty pumpkins out there-brrrrr. I hope you are staying all snug and warm in your little corner of the world. One day real soon you will both be home-I can just envision the day when the Dr.'s tell your mom and dad "OK you can take them home." That will be a very nice day for them. Lindsey & Sydney you are doing so well and your new little corner in the NICU is so cute! It was a great day for me yesterday as I got to hold you, Lindsey! Wanted to look into those big eyes of yours but you were way too sleepy. That's ok, just rest and keep growing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It was really nice being able to visit with you both this weekend. Tom and I both appreciate your taking time from your busy schedule to stop over for a chat and breakfast. I trust the drive home wasn't too long, Kim. I guess we didn't cheer loud enough for the Packers though. And I know it's hard to believe that we were even thinking about cheering for the Bears. Oh well, stranger things have happened. It was fun hearing the history of the grils' rocking horse and the real ties it has with your whole family. The girls are looking so cute and healthy and it's only a short time now till they'll both be home fighting for their own space the the crib. Thanks again for sharing all your news and updates with us. Love always!

Dear Lindsey and Sydney-Merry first Christmas baby girls-It was nice to read the journals this evening and I hope that tomorrow when I read it everything is still going good for the two of you. I said extra prayers at Christmas Mass for the two of you. We are very lucky to have such a wonderful children's hospital for you-that is a special gift from God's big heart. You must be very special to all the nurses that take care of you. I better go now as it is getting late and I must get up early for work tomorrow-I would rather be shopping and getting all those deals. Keep growing and stay strong. MERRRY CHRISTMAS TO OUR PRECIOUS LINDSEY & SYDNEY!

The family celebrated Christmas Eve at our house and you were in the thoughts of all of us. We put your pictures with two angel candles on our serving table so that you could join us. We are so glad to hear that your surgery went well, Sydney, and excited to hear the news that you got your Christmas wish, Lindsey. We know it won't be long and you will be home with your mommy, daddy and brother. Stay strong and keep on growing! Hugs & kisses from Grandma Gloria & Grandpa Dean!! Love you so much!

Yeah, Sydney!!! Isn't it weird seeing her out of her isolette and in the regular little bed? I remember being kind of scared when Caleb first moved out of the isolette! He looked so little an unprotected out of his house! Just wait until they get to move into a bed together - that will be a big day! I will pray that her surgery goes well today. They are such little fighters. I'm also thinking of Lindsey and sending her positive vibes to keep those lungs growing strong. We just met a couple in church yesterday who have twin boys that were born a few weeks before our boys...they were 28 week-ers. They went through a long stay at Abbott, but they are growing well now! It is so amazing how these little tiny warriors fight on. I wish you lots of joy this Christmas - Merry Christmas Sydney and Lindsey!!!

Hello Beautiful nieces! We are so glad we were able to visit you today! My how you have changed in 4 wks. You couldn't be more cute and sweet! Even though you both were so very tired when we came, we know you felt us there! The angels that are looking after you are doing a splendid job.... Your getting so big and so strong, its amazing to watch you change & grow! How beautiful your isolettes have been decorated with your holiday hats and tiny red stockings from your Grandma G.
Thanks Kim & Brian for taking time to take us in to see the girls, it was the highlight of our day!
Rest peacefully sweet babies! We know your NICU will be a joyful place to spend the holidays with the rest of Gods smallest angels! Merry Christmas! See you soon!

Time is still flying by. I goofed., the first time. Can't believe how those little angels have grown. On one of the pictures I thought they looked like Brice. Didn't see all that black hair through. Thank goodness for that. I use to make plaques that said," Babies are a good way to start people" , and you and Brian have done a great job. I'm sure God has great plans for them. Love to all.

I hadn't heard you were blessed with 2 new additions until Mark at Skyline filled me in. What blessings these two little girls are! I look at our 3 year old and ask, was he ever a newborn?? They grow faster than you want them to. Pretty soon these two will want cars, so you better start saving now!! Sending love and hugs!! (I use to work with Brian at Skyline in Customer Service)

My my, you girls sure rate! Santa comes right to your little homes and has a special visit with you both! I bet you wished to come home did'nt you? I know thats what we wished for when we saw Santa! We can't believe how much you have grown and changed since our last visit. You are both so beautiful!

It's hard to believe Christmas is almost here; and this year we have so much to be Thankful for!! Our Christmas wish for you Kim, Brian & Brice, is that your gorgeous girls stay strong and healthy and are home real soon! That thier eye exams continue to come back with no progression. That Lindsey makes it on CPAP and Sydney stays off it. We also pray that this season without your girls at home does not bring saddness but hope for the future! There is so much ahead of you that will bring so much joy! Children are the greatest gift God entrusts us with! And each day spent with a child is a chance to see into the eyes of God! Granted there are days when you may have to look deeper for the good, like when they cut up that special afgan your grandmother made, or when they decide to paint thier walls with the contents of thier diaper.... But all in all those moments are few and far between! God Bless and keep the faith!

But I do believe Lindsey and Sydney were sent to fulfill (1) A parents wish and (2) to show us all what a miricle life can be, and that with prayer and love even the tiniest angels can soar! You keep flying girls, because we all believe in you!!!! Thank you for coming to earth to be our inspiration. In 9 weeks you have touched more lives than most will come close to in a lifetime... Greetings everyone,
Excellent pictures!! The girls are looking so healthy, and Lindsey's little bow in her hair -- how cute. It's just the beginning of all the pony tails and pig tails that you'll be putting in, Kim. It's remarkable to see the pictures with their little bear in their isolette. I remember wondering how big the bears were compared to the babies when they were born. It's nice to have a visual and know that their guardian angels are watching over them. Thank you both for taking such good care of them. Love and hugs always.

You both seem to have grown so much since I saw you last week. It's always so good to hear your mom & dad and your nurses tell us how good you are doing....way to go girls! It was wonderful to again see the little "angels" on Saturday. They are growing and changing so much each week..amazed at all the hair they have and how they are starting to fill out their little diapers. We love you Lindsey & Sydney...see you next weekend!

Congratulations on the birth of your precious little ones!! I go to church with Grandma Gloria, Aunty Kristy and families. I have twins also, now almost seven and a couple of very close friends who have twins which decided to come into the world quite early. So, if there is anything we "experienced twin mothers" can ever do for you, please let me know. We love to chat and share our experiences. Our prayers are with you!!!

Good Morning! Its a thrill to read the journal and have so many positive things happening with the girls! It is a bit surreal to think that a month ago today they were just entering this world and we were all so scared! And in month they have grown and changed so much and are working thier way home! These two angels have been sent to make thier mark on this world! They have already made marks on all our hearts!

"I was hungry and you gave me food...I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me..." MATTHEW 25:35-36

Good Morning!

It was another exciting weekend for Grandma Gloria & Grandpa Dean....we just love so much our time spent with Lindsey & Sydney. Grandpa didn't get there last weekend and thought they had changed some. He got to see Sydney open her eyes but most of the time they were both resting. Their nurses are so very nice and take time to answer all my questions and I usually have "lots"!! Good job angels, stay strong and keep on growing! We love you!

Hi Kim and Brian-God's many blessings to you and your beautiful girls. Kristy wrote awhile ago to tell us your precious news. I have been following the progress of both your angels, and thought I should finally write to let you know I am thinking about you daily. Our son, Adam, was born at 29w4d gestation. He spent the first two weeks of his life at Children's (Mpls.), and the next six weeks at Fairview Ridges in Burnsville. I was immediately pulled back to the NICU when I saw the girls photos. The isolettes, monitors, and alarms are still so fresh in my mind. The day to day accomplishments that may seem so trivial are really the building blocks that keep you going. Seeing your child(ren) move from a ventilator to the CPAP or increasing from 1 cc to 2 cc is something so miraculous. We were so impressed with all the doctors and nurses, which is so important when you leave your precious child(ren) every night. We will continue to keep you in our prayers. The webpage is wonderful! God Bless!

Good Morning! Boy you can see already they are fighting to be the top dog! Sibling rivalry at its best! Our hearts sure go out to you as you face these day to day ups and downs! Our hope for you is that you continue to take care of yourselves so that your strong for the girls! You both have been so inspirational through this whole thing. Sydney & Lindsey are so blessed! In the years ahead as you look back on this time in the NICU it will seem like such a small moment in time compared to the joy you will have in the years of raising these little munchkins! Keep the faith, and know that we're all here for you! (Anytime) Say hi to Brice! xxxxxooooo

Good morning Kim & Brian- We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our visit last night with you and the girls! To watch "Daddy" with Sydney is an image etched in our mind! The look of love & peace on his face was like no other, and to see her open her eyes at us as if to say
"Aunt Kristy, enough with the pictures already!" It was so amazing to talk to them and see them respond. The NICU is such a different place at night! It is so calm and peaceful and the staff are so very kind. Not as much excitement lastnight for Lindsey but she will have her day very soon and then look out we'll be back with the camera. Their journey may be more challenging than others but the rewards will be so sweet. We wish for you all a wonderful, uneventful day! Peace & love to you all! God bless!

I don't know you guys personally, but was asked to say prayers for your girls by a good friend of mine, which I do on a daily basis.

I also wanted to let you know that I'm making a donation to the March of Dimes in Sydney and Lindsey's names. A lot of the medical technology that is helping your tiny girls grow and thrive was discovered through research funded by the March of Dimes. Your photo album is proof positive of the good things that come from their work.

God bless your family!

What beatiful names you have chosen for them. You guys have been through so much you deserve these little cutie pies. (just remember Bri, they will be asking for your credit cards to go shopping in no time at all.)You stay strong now my thoughts and a prayer go out to you daily. keep smiling you hear? :)

My daughter, who has been on the infertility boards for nearly a year, told me about you and your beautiful daughters. Just the fact they are girls is very much in their favor. It sounds like they have the will to live, in part, I can guarantee you, because they KNOW you love them. Once they're big enough, perhaps they can be in a bassinet together; I have heard of great and miraculous things happening for twin babies who are kept so close to each other. They have always been together and I understand they will always need that.

Congratulations again and know how happy I am that they continue to be well. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Brian and Kim-
I am a designer in Project Management at Skyline. My twin boys were born at 33 weeks after I spent 2 1/2 weeks at Abbott on bedrest....the mag sulfate, feeding tubes, head ultrasounds, PDA's and everything else sounds so familiar. I have been thinking of you all often and hope that everything goes well for the girls. I know how hard it is to not have them home with you, but my boys are almost 4 months old now and that time they spent in the hospital seems like it was forever ago. Twins are a beautiful blessing.......twice the love.....twice the hugs. My prayers are with you- Allison Schrein
