Maggie's Page Mural in Memory of Maggie at Whitefish Bay Middle School
Margaret Ellen Schumann March 31,1993 - August 18,2007
Welcome to Maggie's Web Page. It is used to keep people updated about how she is doing in her fight with Ewing's Sarcoma.
Maggie was first diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma of her right fibula on October 16 2002. She had 23 cycles of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation therapy. She was declared in remission in November 2003.
On routine follow up scans, 3/1/2005, a new tumor was found next to where the previous one was. Maggie had her right lower leg amputated on March 10th. She had four cycles of chemotherapy, and then an autologous stem cell transplant in August of 2005.
In July of 2006, 3 new tumors were found. Maggie had a couple of new types of chemo and a number of courses of radiation, but the horrible "beast" that Ewing's is continued it's assault on her body. She graduated from 8th grade, went to camp in the beginning of July, and passed on; quietly, bravely, and on her own turf and terms. We were so fortunate to have her smile until the end.

August 18th will mark the fourth year since Maggie left us. Her class is off to college this fall.
It's been a diffucult year for the team. Uncle Phil passed away in January. He was 57 years old. He was such a huge help to Maggie and I; to all of the team while she was ill. He was in so much pain, and so weak in the last few months. It is my firm belief that he passed right into a big hug from his niece. They jumped into a car, put the windows down, and drove around, whole and pain free; reveling in each other's company.
Maggie's grandmother, my mom, Tuttie passed away in April. She was never one to complain about the hand she had been dealt in life, but loosing Phil was simply too much for her. She fell at his memorial and broke her pelvis. I stayed at her apartment and took care of her after her discharge from rehab. I am thankful for all the time we had together. She was 84.
Betsy was a huge help to me during all of this. She and I stayed at the hospital with Phil his last few nights, and she helped me with Tuttie. All while being in the midst of her Junior year of Nursing school. Tuttie asked me to set Betsy up in a condo with some of the proceeds of her estate. We closed on a beautiful place in Brewer's Hill this morning. Mom would be proud.
I worked at One Step Camp in June for 4 days. My first visit to camp since taking Maggie there. I worked as medical staff. Next year I will be there a week. It was very good for me to do this, and very emotional.
I also took a trip to Bogota, Colombia, last fall to visit a friend. It was stupendous.
I have changed my status at work to "Pool", and am working about once a week. I have been busy doing some defered maintence on the house, closing Mom's apartment, and some other volunteer work.
Thanks for checking in. Cindy and Team Maggie
