Congratulations Baby Girl! Three Years Off Treatment! September 16, 2006
Welcome to our child's webpage. It has been created to keep family and friends informed about her fight against ALL(Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.)
Katie was diagnosed on June 27th 2002 at the age of 3 1/2. She achieved remission by day 14 of treatment. KATIE HAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED TREATMENT ON SEPTEMBER 16TH 2004!
I thought I would post what normal blood counts are in healthy children so that you have something to compare Katie's counts to:
WBC 5.5-15.5 Hemoglobin 11.5-14.5 Platelets 150-450 ANC Anything over 1000 for a child on chemo is good

Don't forget to give Katie Rose a hug!

*HUGS* TOTAL! give KatieRose more *HUGS*

Hello!
I am right on time, right! Sorry, no excuses. I'll get straight to the point, Katie's 3 year OT appointment went flawlessly! Her counts were great, she's growing like a weed, and Dr. McManus, once again, gave us the all clear and she looks perfect! She won't be seen again until next September. She gave her doctor a big hug before she left and you could tell that she made his day.
So, nothing else is new...just kidding! LOL
So many things, I don't know where to start. Jamie is doing well in school and liking college. Except for her roommate, but that's a story for a different time.
Katie is already finished with soccer and on to basketball, in fact, she is playing as I finally update the website! She is all about the sports she is...I'd like to think she gets it from me! Once that is over she will be on to gymnastics. She is also in Girl Scouts this year and just finished selling 148 boxes of cookies! Now I get to deliver them!
She has also decided to grow her hair out as long as she can and then donate it to kids with cancer. I think Meghan may be joining her in that. She is already taking an active part to give back to those less fortunate.
She enjoys school for the most part...her favorite subject besides science is Greek Mythology! She can't get enough of that. I have even found some extra enrichment things that she can do to get more involved in that. She did a butterfly study in the beginning of the year and now we are onto tadpoles! We have 8 and 2 have already turned into frogs!
Ryan has been enjoying bowhunting, and Meghan sometimes goes with him to run the video camera. He shot a wonderful 9 pointer early in the season, but did not get a killing shot. The deer is fine...we have seen him since, but later found out that his sight had slipped and was way off. It made sense because he generally is a really good shot.
Nicholas is just Nicholas, sometimes naughty, sometimes nice, mostly boy!
We had a terrible accident in September, we lost our Golden Retriever, Ricky. I don't really want to go into details because it was my fault and still really hard to talk about. Anyway, one thing led to another and now we have a new baby in the family. Another Golden Retriever. Her name is Sage and she is the sweetest puppy that ever lived! We weren't really planning on another dog so soon, but things just happened. Jamie took things really hard and when she met Sage, told her that she was going to have some big paws to fill. It was only moments before puppy love hit her! We still miss Ricky terribly, but the house just didn't seem like a home without a Golden Retriever in it! She really is a very good puppy...very mellow, most of the time and already potty trained. We still are getting up in the night, but managing.
Wow, I feel like I have just gone on and on, so I guess it's time for me to get this posted if you are even still checking! My updates may be further in between, but it's a good thing...we still are VERY aware of other children fighting this terrible disease, and they are always in our thoughts. We just feel so fortunate that Katie continues to do well. It has been a long road, but we are getting there.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holdiay, and take time to appreciate the little things.
Thank you all for reading and checking in on My Rosebud!
Love Keri
