"Children with cancer are like candles in the wind who accept that they are in danger of being extinguished by a gust of wind from nowhere, and yet they flicker and dance to remain alive, their brilliance challenges the darkness and dazzles those of us who watch their light"

Journal

Another year has passed without John. It is difficult to comprehend at times that we went through another entire year without him. However, the good thought is another year behind us is another year closer to seeing him again. I am in no way anxious to leave this world but I know there is someone to look forward to seeing when I do.

I get many signs that I attribute are from John. They can't be explained and happen too often at appropriate times for coincidental occurrences. It gives me great comfort and I will take it for what it is.

2012 had a rough ending. One of our best friends, Jim Olsen, passed away. It was harsh realty that we may never know when our day will come. We will miss Jim terribly and we have incredible sadness for Karen, Conner, and Kyle as they start their journey without him. Jim was a like a second dad to John. I have no doubt John was waiting for Jim when he passed away.

Andrew is doing great. He is away at college playing football. I am adjusting to empty nesting. I don't really like it but I am very proud of Andrew.

All in all we are doing well. I miss John every day and some times, grief knocks me over. Those times are less and less. Thank goodness. Grief sucks. Many times Andrew will do something or say something that will be complete John. It will take my breath away then I have to smile. It is awesome to experience similar traits and many that Andrew was not aware that John did.

I pray there is a cure for Leukemia in the very near future. All cancers really. No one should experience the wrath of cancer.

Love you John Forever.
