Garrett Cordell Starr

GARRETT CORDELL STARR

This web page is about a boy who is very athletic. He loves tennis and basketball. Garrett was diagnosed in August 2003 with a brain tumor. It took us five doctors to just get an MRI. After the resection we found out that it was Medulloblastoma, a malignant brain tumor. On Sept. 11, 2003 another MRI of the spine showed malignant tumors of the spine. Long story short back home was only going to do 6 weeks of chemo and radiation and make him comfortable. That was not an option for us. A family friend Blanche Roddick (Andy Roddicks mom) called tennis friends Mac and Claire Winkers from Memphis who then called some of their contacts. It truely is a MIRACLE that everything fell into place because after 10 rounds of chemo, high dose chemo with stem cell transplant and 6 weeks of radiation, Garrett is CANCER FREE. We have our next check up is in late July 2006. We just pray that it stays gone for ever!! Thank you everyone for all that you have done for us. Especially the doctors and nurses at St.Judes, The Roddicks and The Winkers. We love you ALL! GOD BLESS!

Whoa! I know I know its been forever since I last updated Gs page. That's good news though. No news is good news!! Lets see our last visit to St.Jude went well. Everything is stable. I tell ya it has sucked going back since Dr.Fouladi has been gone. It just isn't the same. It just seems like we are now just a number. Which is okay at least we aren't on therapy anymore. Can you believe that it will be 5yrs in July that G will be cancer free. It so does not seem like it has been that long.

G is doing great. He is getting so big. Just a solid boy. Tall, can't imagine where he gets that at?? He has really been doing great in school this year. It is all starting to finally click. He is still way behind his fellow 2nd graders but we will still keep him with his peers. He is still walking with a walker, not on his own. He has a motorized chair. Of course he has all kinds of girlfriends. As most of you know we have all kinds of animals. Well last spring we had to put mya down (chocolate lab) then the first day of school someone intentionally hit gs dog p.j. After mya passed away we got a new dog named doofus. I did not name him my ex-boyfriend did. I actualy got the dog for him but he ended up being Gs dog. Anyway about a month ago he disappeared. He fell off the face of the earth. We look everywhere, called everywhere and searched for weeks. We still search for him. We are pretty sure that he was stolen from us. But we still have zoey. We got her in November. Shes a pure bred new foundland. Beautiful dog. Yes huge but can you really see us with a small dog?? She just turned a year. G still has 2 cats, bob the turtle, fish, and his 2 bunnies. Lets see did I forget anything? Gs wish list for animals, all the animals at the humane society, bird, goat and sheep. Oh if ya wanna throw in a black bear or two that would be great. He wants to be a animal scientist when he grows up or a animal rescurer. Which is funny because when I was little I wanted to be a animal rescurer to. I wanted to have a home for all lost abandoned and hurt animals. Still do. Then I wanted to be a vet, don't really know how I ended up being a cosmetologist. Hmmmm. Anyway we are doing great. The weather is finally starting to get nice so we can spend our free time outside. Take care and sorry it took me like months to update. God bless......Mel
