CaringBridge Wins Two Awards for Using Technology to Advance Caring

Eagan, Minn., (April 10, 2014) —

CaringBridge, a nonprofit organization that connects people when it matters most, has won two important awards that recognize the organization’s commitment to using technology to amplify love, hope and compassion. CaringBridge was honored with a Dot.Org “Connecting Communities” award from the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits and the “Experience that Makes a Difference” award from UX Magazine.

“Winning these awards means so much to us as an organization,” said Sona Mehring, founder and CEO of CaringBridge. “We have worked hard to make CaringBridge a compassionate place and a site that’s easy to use -- because we know the greatest source of healing is the love of family and friends.”

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofit’s Dot.org Awards recognize innovative nonprofit organizations in Minnesota for their forward-thinking approach to utilizing technology and communication in their organization and campaigns.

The Dot.Org Connecting Communities recognition, awarded April 10 during the 2014 Nonprofit Technology and Communications Conference in Minneapolis, honors CaringBridge’s “Share Your Heart” Contest, which invited people to upload photos, videos or a brief description of the unique ways they share their love and support with others. The contest was selected due to its distinctive angle and overall success, with more than 315 entries and 7,300 votes.

The UX Magazine “Design for Experience” Awards honors companies, organizations, products and teams that go above and beyond to provide users with the best possible digital experience.

The “Experience that Makes a Difference” award recognizes digital products, systems and other design initiatives that have meaningful impacts on people’s lives or society. CaringBridge was chosen for helping make the health journeys of its users easier, allowing them to communicate with loved ones and receive support in one place, transforming personal connections into a powerful community of support.

In addition to winning the “Experience that Makes a Difference” award, CaringBridge was selected as a semi-finalist for the “Accessibility” award. This award is given to companies, organizations and individuals who make their products or services more successful by paying special attention to accessibility for people with impairments.

This design-for-care principle is woven into every CaringBridge product feature and campaign – such as its newly implemented Planner, which allows families and friends to coordinate care and organize helpful tasks, like delivering meals, babysitting and driving for doctor appointments.
