Nates Superhero Club

********** Update June 2007 Nate passed away June 16th at 4:57pm in the arms of his family. He wasn't in pain and was surrounded by love. We will miss him forever.*****

Welcome to NATES SUPERHERO CLUB!!!! Nate was born Oct 24th 2001. He is the youngest of 4. He has a big brother named Mikey, and two big sisters, Shelby who is 7, and Kinsey who is 4. Nate was always a very happy heathly little boy then in Oct of 2003 he started to change he became very irriatble and unable to sleep. We took him to multiple doctors and were told nothing was wrong. After two months of misdiagnosis and fighting with the doctors we were finally given an answer on Jan 9 2004. Our beautiful little boy had Stage IV Neuroblastoma which is a very aggressive cancer of the central nervous system. This was the absolute most terrifying day of our lives. In later days we would come to find out that he had a large primary tumor in his abdomen along with 2 on his skull and tumors on his knees elbows and neck. He started an aggressive protocol that included 6 cycles of induction chemotherapy. After the 5th cycle he had an 11 hr surgery to remove the primary tumor. Nate then went to Childrens Hospital in Seattle to have a Autolugous Stem Cell Transplant. This was very difficult he was in alot of pain from the side effects and ended up developing pnemonia. His total hospital stay was 42 days. We then went to the University of Washington Medical Center for 14 cycles of radiation. When we completed that they did restaging scans and still saw suspicious spots on his CT scan so they decided to do a second look surgery which took another 7 and half hours. They were able to remove everything and now have said that there is no evidence of malignancy. He started a maintence drug called Accutane which we get to give him at home for the next six months and he will have to be scanned and tested periodically to monitor the chance of relapse. We are of course very optimistic but the chances of staying disease free are very small. No matter what Nate will beat this horrible monster. We look in his eyes and know there is no other option. We created this site to let our family and friends keep up on Nates progress and to help get the word out about this disease. Thank you for visting and please sign the guestbook Nate and the other kids love to hear the entries. Also make sure and visit the links on the bottom of the page they have easy ways to help with funding a cure for this monster.

A Letter from Heaven
Mommy, I dreamed you a letter
This comes from Heaven above
Even though I’m up here
I can still feel your love
In Heaven there is no sorrow
There’s never any pain or fear
And would you believe I’ve not been sick
One time since I’ve been here?
You’d be so proud of me, Mommy
I can do so many things
And everyone says I look real cute
In my Halo and my wings
Every year at Christmas
We have a great big tree up here
And guess who gets to be the Angel
On top of the tree this year
Mommy, I dreamed you this letter
That I’m sending you tonight
To tell you not to worry
And let you know that I’m all right
Sometimes I hear you crying
And I wish you weren’t so sad
Cos I think you’re the best Mom
Any Angel ever had
So please don’t feel bad for me
I’m in God’s tender care
And he wanted me to tell you
That he hears your every prayer
I know you miss me, Mommy
You know I miss you, too
But remember, me and God
Are always watching over you
We want you to have a good life
Full of happiness and joy
I’ll see you in your dreams, Mommy
Love, Your Little Boy

Nate's obituary as it will appear in the Kitsap Sun on Friday June 21st

Our Superhero Natey blessed us on October 24, 2001. He went Home peacefully, finally free of pain on June 16, 2007. Natey heroically battled neuroblastoma for most of his 5 years. He finally succumbed to this dreadful disease at Mary Bridge in Tacoma surrounded by his family's love and prayers.
He was born in Bremerton on October 24, 2001. He lived, laughed, and smiled everyday of his beautiful life. He loved to play soccer with his sisters, baseball with his brother, teach his Daddy to play video games and cuddle with his Mommy. Nate's favorite things were Spiderman, Superheroes, tacos, waterfalls, Disneyland and hugs from his brother and sisters.
His loving family still living everyday to the fullest include his Daddy Mike, Mommy Abra, Big Brother Mikey, Big Sisters Shelby and Kinsey, his Grandpa Clifford, Gramma Joyce, Ganny Rhonda and countless other Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, "Girlfriends" and Friends.

"Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith, it is the price of Love

My Mom is a survivor
Or so I've heard it said
But I can hear her crying at night
When all others are in bed
I watch her lay awake at night
And go to hold her hand
She doesn't know I'm with her
To help her understand
But like the sands on the beach
That never wash away
I watch over my surviving Mom
Who thinks of me each day
She wears a smile for others
A smile of disguise!
But through Heaven's door I see
Tears flowing from her eyes
My Mom tries to cope with death
To keep my memory alive
But anyone who knows her knows
It is her way to survive

As I watch over my surviving Mom
Through Heaven's open door
I try to tell her that angels
Protect me forevermore
I know that doesn't help her
Or ease the burden she bears
So if you get a chance go visit her
And show her that you care
For no matter what she says
No matter what she feels
My surviving Mom has a broken heart
That time won't ever heal

Hello everyone,

After a couple of days home and nights thinking about thigs I have decided to stop posting on this site. I will leave it active for a while but will no longer up date.

We are in the process of packing up Nate's things and I can't explain how much it hurts. I never felt saddness or pain this deep. I guess that's because that's how much I loved him.

Thank you all for your support and prayers. Remember the other little warriors who fight this war everyday and the families that fight along with them.
