Dear Mr. Hallmark,

I am writing to you from heaven, and though it must appear,
A rather strange idea, I see everything from here,
I just popped in to visit, your stores to find a card,
A card of love for my parents, as this day for them is hard,
There must be some mistake I thought, every card you can imagine,
except I could not find a card, from a child that lives in heaven,
they are still a parent too, no matter where I reside,
I had to leave, they understand, but oh the tears they cried,
I thought that if I wrote to you, that you would come to know,
that though I live in heaven now, I still love my parents so,
they talk with me, and dreams with me, we still share laughter too,
memories are our way of speaking now, would you see what you can do?
my parents carry me in their heart, their tears they hide from sight,
they plants flowers in my garden, there my living memory dwells,
they writes to other grieving parents, trying to ease there pain as well,
so you see Mr. Hallmark, though I no longer live on earth,
I must find a way, to remind her of her wondrous worth,
they need to be honored, and be remembered too,
just as the children of the earth will do,
thank you Mr. Hallmark, I know you will do your best,
find a way to tell them, how much they mean to me,
until I can do it for myself, when she joins me in eternity.

I know Christmas must be so hard for you although I can't comprehend how difficult it must be.

All my love,

Viks

Always Remembering *Whitney* - Saturday, December 24, 2005 8:42 AM CST

My First Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees,
Around the world below,
With tiny lights like Heaven’s stars
Reflecting on the snow.
The sight is so spectacular,
Please wipe away that tear,
For I’m spending Christmas,
With Jesus Christ this year.
I hear the many Christmas songs,
That people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music don’t compare,
With the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you,
The joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description,
To hear the angels sing.
I know how much you miss me,
I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away,
We really aren’t apart.
So be happy for me, dear ones,
You know I hold you dear
And be glad I’m spending Christmas,
With Jesus Christ this year.
I send you each a special gift,
From the heavenly home above,
I send you each a memory,
Of my undying love.
After all “Love” is a gift,
More precious than pure gold,
It was always most important,
In the stories Jesus told.
Please love and keep each other,
As my heavenly father said to do,
For I can’t count the blessings of love,
He has for each of you.
So have a Merry Christmas,
And wipe away that tear,
Remember, I’m spending Christmas,
With Jesus Christ this year.

To Whitney's Family,
My sincere sympathies in the loss of your little dolly.
There is nothing like losing a child.. no words to even say that might even remotely help. My loss was 6 years ago and it was only a 3 week old baby but I never forget... there will always be a hole.
I am originally from NH but I live in Upper Michigan. My sister's child was born with severe deformaties and is treated at Dartmouth Hitchcock. I also have a 50 year old aunt who has cancer and was told a few weeks ago that there is nothing more they can do.. I don't know how long she has to live but she has an 11 year old and a 9 year old. She is also treated there.. I will keep you in my prayers.

Another angel takes flight.

My deepest, most sincere sympathy and condolences to each and every one of you!! Whitney was a fighter; there is no doubt about that! She is now pain free, free to fly in the Heavens and watch over all of you!
We lost our precious Pam on Oct. 7, 2003, so I know what you are going through. There are no words that can ease the pain.

The worst thing that can happen to a parent is to lose a child. It feels like someone ripped your heart out. You go from the unbelievable to the unbearable.

Whitney is in a good place now and I'm sure Pam is with her. She just loved children so much.

I would just like to share a saying that was on the card my wife Diane picked out, and we bought for Pam:

If you were a star
That wasn’t expected back
In the universe
For a thousand years,
I’d wait.

If you were the sky
And everyone went inside
When you got sad
And started to rain,
I’d stay.

And if you were a peach
And the world decided to get rid of all peaches,
I’d pick you up,
Put you in my pocket…

AND KEEP YOU……..FOREVER.

I would also like to share, with you and your family, a poem that was put on Pam’s website:
God's Garden

God looked around His garden
And found an empty place
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face

He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best

He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "Peace Be Thine."

It breaks our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Below is a poem that we have on a plaque dedicated to Pam:

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death
we do the same… It broke our
hearts to lose you, you did not go
alone; for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home… You
left us peaceful memories, your love
is still our guide, and though we
cannot see you, you are always at our
side… Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same;
but as God calls us one by one,
The Chain will link again.

You are all in our prayers. GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

Dearest Karen, Amanda, and Extended family of Angel Whitney:
My heart is breaking with you today. I can truly say "I understand" because I walked the same road and lost my little girl to cancer, also. Take things an hour at a time... then a day... then a week, and so on. No one should put your grief on a timetable because we all grieve differently. No feeling is "crazy" in the world of Moms who have lost the children of their hearts, so let yourself feel. My heart and prayers will be with you daily. I do care so much! I cry with you in the silence, rage with you against the dark, delight with you in the relief of no more pain for your beautiful Whitney.... and am quietly with you, tears streaming down my face mixing with yours, as you walk yet another road of challenge and heartache.
You are in my prayer~songs this night and in all the nights to come. Wishing you healing balm and the comfort of angels and God Himself during these days ahead.

To Whitney's Mom, Karen, and Sister, Amanda,

I am brokenhearted to know that cancer finally got the best of this delightful child. I am grateful that she got to spend Christmas at home with both of you and that she enjoyed herself immensely. It must have been a bittersweet holiday season, however, since you knew she wasn't doing all that well and that it could very well be her last Christmas with you. My heart goes out to you at this very sad time of loss. Karen, your birthday will never be the same. Take good care of yourself and be open to accepting caring gestures from family and friends -- meals, offers to clean, neckrubs, boxes of Kleenex, offers to do shopping, etc. Amanda, being 12-1/2 years old is TOUGH enough without having to lose a younger sister. My heart goes out to you, too. Take good care of yourself and your mom.

Lots of hugs all the way from the west coast,

I am saddened to hear about Whitney, although heaven got one special angel. I'm sure God has already made sure she feels quite welcome and is taking really good care of her. Whitney, I hope you had a lot of fun pinching everyone on St. Patrick's Day. I wore green so got no pinches. We are on Spring Break or I would have probably been covered with pinches from the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders I work with in the computer lab. Aren't you glad spring will be here on the 20th and you will be able to ride your bike more.

The birds were a-squawking and just bugging me in general to send this greeting for the New Year. New Years Eve they will be safely tucked in their cages, with a loud air purifier running so they don't hear all the fireworks in our neigbhorhood. We are a "stay at home" family on New Years, because so many of our neighbors put on spectacular fireworks displays. But that doesn't help with the birds, that's for sure! So, as we roll in this new year, we are going to be thinking about you, our long distance friend, and oh, yes, the dogs and cats just reminded me they want to be included in our wish, too. So, here goes. Happy New Year from: (there'll be a quiz on this later, ha ha ha!)

Sport the collie, Murphy the Shih-Tzu, Esmerelda the Maine Coon cat, Lex the black cat, O'Malley the grey and white cat, Charlotte the himalayan, Tripoli the Yellow Nape Amazon, Pompeii the Severe Macaw, Dasani the Blue-headed Pionus, Mokuba the Jenday, and Mirage the Congo African Grey...(all 11) and Sam the 6th grader, Ben the 4th grader, Cathie and Mike. Whew. By the time you get through all these, it will be 2005!

Remember, you can click on the photo to see the birds on their website. (They told me THEY own it now. Pushy, aren't they?)

Sam and Ben are certainly creative, aren't they?! They were clowning around and with a simple hat, paper towels for a beard, and lots of pillows...emphasize LOTS....they came up with these costumes that they wanted to share with you. I don't know, I think Ben (on the right) looks more like a very well fed Sumo wrestler!

It was fun to see them waddling around, and FORGET trying to sit down...they plopped right off the chairs. (That is, the chairs they managed to even make contact with. With so much stuffing, they couldn't see where they were aiming and usually ended up on the floor. They didn't feel a thing with so much padding, though!) They eventually gave up, so the costumes weren't on very long, needless to say. Thank goodness, I was worried about my pillows' stuffing!

We're thinking about you here in Houston! (It was 75 degrees here today, can you believe that?!)

Hi Whitney! It's Debra from Feather's 'n Smiles in TX. Just wanted to stop by and say hello! I hope you are going to have a Happy Thanksgiving. I am cooking for 12 people so Kade has been helping me get things ready. We have cleaned house all week and Kade made some table decorations. They are little Dixie cups decorated like a turkey, a pilgrim, an Indian, etc. She has done a great job! Kade is quite creative, as most girls are.

I thought you might like to see one of our baby fids. (That's feathered kid!) Her name is Barclay and she is 8 months old. We call her 'the pill' because she likes to bite the dog, the cat, the other birds, and anyone who tries to pick her up, except Mommie. (That's me!) I haven't mastered putting a picture into the guestbook but here is her link:

http://www.geocities.com/kade1994/01BarclaySM.JPG

Doesn't she look cheeky?? Definitely has an attitude! I forget to tell you she is a Meyer's Parrot. She will stay about 3 1/2 ounces. However, she does think she is a MaCaw!! LOL! We haven't told her she isn't!

Well, our flock certainly is getting interesting. We got Dasani, the Blue Headed Pionus just a few weeks ago, and now we've added our fifth (and final) member. I felt bad for Dasani, because he is smaller than our amazon, macaw, and Congo African Grey....so we got him a pal! Meet Mokuba, aka "Moki." (Mokuba is Kaiba's younger brother on YuGiOh) Moki has such a brilliant yellow! He is a Jenday and absolutely adores Dasani. He has pretty blue and purple tail feathers, too. They wanted you to know they're thinking about you!

This little cutie just dazzled me when I visited the bird nursery..so we've added a FIFTH bird to our flock! I couldn't believe the sizzling blue coming through..and he's only TWO MONTHS old! He's a boy (they did a DNA blood test) and he wobbled onto my finger and said, "Dah bop?" My heart went "pit pat" and the rest is history. I was lucky, because these guys aren't that common. This breeder has only had one other one...five years ago!

We are known for our unusual and original bird names. Well, this little guy is a BLUE HEADED PIONUS. So, meet DASANI. You know, like the BLUE bottled water by Pepsi? And guess what his nickname is? SONIC, (derived from the "sani") another BLUE item, ie, the Sega blue mascot? (think video games) How perfect!

Dasani will have a hot blue/purple head, it's awesome! But what you'd love the most is their smell. They have a fruity smell! Dasani smells like a cherry-orange mix! Well, we just wanted to share our baby news with you. Dasani will be in the nursery for another month or so. Bye for now, more bird pics coming soon.

Hi Whitney,

I am just dropping by from Feathers and Smiles. I hope you have been getting some rest, sweetie, from all those trips to the hospital.I'm from Texas and most places here are really spread out so we don't have as much traffic as you probably see.

I have a girl named Kade (sounds like Katie). She's adopted and that's the nickname I gave her. Her 1st initials are K. and D., so I called her Kade!! I brought her home from Rhode Island when she was almost 7 months old. She only weighed 1 # 14 oz when she was born and only weighed 9 # when I brought her home!! She just turned 9 yrs old; right between you and your sister.

Kade said to tell you hello. She likes to read and is now reading The Phantom Stallion Series. Likes horses, needless to say!!

Hugs to you and sis...

Hi Whitney! Instead of posting my birds' pictures, this time I thought we'd go wild. This is one of 300 pictures I took. Did you know Indochinese tigers LOVE to swim? They do. We watched these two for about an hour at the Houston Zoo. They have a huge area to lounge around in, and a wide "river" to swim in. The Houston Zoo is known for its natural habitats...some are so good, you can't see the animals. We never did spot the leopards (no pun intended.) which were hidden up in their rocky area.

Here's some fact about these tigers for you! They are found in mainly in Thailand, but also Cambodia, China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Jamaica, Virgin Islands (U.S.)
They like forest but also hills and mountainous areas. Their stripes are narrower than the Bengal tiger..but folks OFTEN get these guys mixed up! And guess how much they weigh when they are born? TWO ounces! The mom usually has 2-4 babies and by a year and a half old, they are skilled enough hunters to say, "See ya later!"

Click on the picture to go to the Houston Zoo page ..I've linked you the page where you can click on any of the mammals and see great pictures and facts. (I spent about an hour surfing the page myself! You can also go to birds, fish, reptile pages, etc.) Enjoy!

My yellow nape amazon, Tripoli, thought you'd like a picture of a bird in your guestbook. She is a show off! Did you know she she sings Yankee Doodle, Saints Come Marching In, and Old Mac Donald Had A Farm? She also says 150 different things, such as (wolf whistle) "Wow! You're a ten!" Other things are "You're my baby," and "I love you" and "Whatcha doing?" and "I want outside!" She also tells me, "I want food." She also does MY laugh then says, "You're funny!" The last time I corrected her singing, she told me, "There ya go!" like SHE was teaching ME!

We are working on "Uh oh. I taste like chicken." Aren't I mean? Hee hee hee. Total, I have four birds. Tripoli, Pompeii (a severe macaw) Callao (a Half Moon Conure) and Mirage (a Congo African grey) They keep me busy! We're all thinking about you Whitney. Glad you got the stem cells harvested..and hope you and your mom get to rest up!

(BTW, If anyone who owns birds would like to join our Feathers 'n Smiles group, just click on the picture. We sign guestbooks of these wonderful kids and tell them briefly about our birds. )(You don't have to do pictures.)

Ducks a'quaking and dolphins swimming
Hey, and this is just a dream beginning!

I look at the ocean and see crystal blue
Is that a moon in sight, can you see it too?

Filled with fun things to see and well wishes to give
Flowers in the garden and sand to play
I just may build a sand castle someday

The birds are fluttering, flying by
It's all so beautiful, I exhale a sigh

I stuff my dream in a bottle to share with you
Offering friendship to Whitney and well wishes too!

For Whitney:

A dream of mine I am sending you
Filled with joy and flowers too
Ducks a'quaking and dolphins swimming
Hey, and this is just a dream beginning!

I look at the ocean and see crystal blue
Is that a moon in sight, can you see it too?

The little pink house is where I live
Filled with fun things to see and well wishes to give
Flowers in the garden and sand to play
I just may build a sand castle someday

The birds are fluttering, flying by
It's all so beautiful, I exhale a sigh

I stuff my dream in a bottle to share with you
Offering friendship to Whitney and well wishes too!

Hugs, Angel Myst :)

Hey Whitney, how are you doing? I hope you all are enjoying your summer!!! Did I ever tell you we found some bunnies in our backyard recently. Actually, our dog did - the kids were in the pool and she was barking like crazy under the pool deck. Finally when we checked there was a bunny nest with a baby bunny in it. Then after more looking through it we found 2 more. So since I have 3 kids and there was 3 bunnies, they each named one. We left lettuce and water and carrots out there but it was never touched so we dont think the mom came back. About 2 days later we took them in to feed them and we had them a week, feeding them kitten milk from a kitten bottle or dropper. They were SO cute! They called them Jean, Robin and Nibbles. My son Gooch called his Jean, named after Jean Smart in XMen. They opened their eyes while we had them and by the end of the week we had them they were running all over, more running than hopping. My husband was convinced they were going to grow up and bite our fingers off, so we turned them over to a Childrens Museum that is a wildlife rehab center near us. I hope they are being taken care of, if they werent already released. I know the kids loved them and they really were cute!! That was our thrill for the summer – hope you are enjoying yours! Heres to great scan results...YEAH!!!!!

Hi Whitney and Amanda! I just wanted to stop by and say hello and Happy Spring! Wow, I am so glad that I can finally kiss this COLD Michigan weather goodbye! The news says that we might have one more snow (UGH!) but it's not supposed to stick because it's been pretty warm here. I can't wait to see if any of my spring bulbs bloom this year. I planted over 100 bulbs in the fall but our dumb dog dug most of them up and ate them...we were waiting for him to sprout tulips out of his ears! :)
I hope you and your family are all doing well. I'll check back in on you again soon.

Hi Whitney and Amanda! I have two little boys who are the same age as you two (well, actually Eric won't be 7 until June...but he acts like he's going on 20!) I just finished reading all about you and I wanted to say that I think you are two of the bravest little girls ever! Amanda, I bet you are a wonderful big sister. I have four older sisters and one older brother so I always wanted a baby sister. Now I'm the mom of two boys so I STILL don't have a little girl to play barbies and stuff with...Even my dog is a boy so I'm really outnumbered in my house! Anyway girls, I hope you have a wonderful week and I look forward to reading nothing but good updates about you at the Hugs and Hope site! Big smiles and hugs from Michigan! ~Candy

And Amanda, that is so neat that you like art and crafts, I was a professional artist and taught myself to draw and paint...and am in national magazines! So when you get bored or feel creative, be sure and doodle! (Your mom will probably keep every single one of them..I had to throw some of my "boo boos" away because I knew my mom would keep them anyway!)

Hello! My name is Vicki, and I too have bee through the trauma of having a child with cancer. I am so sorry that your Whitney has to endure such pain. The things that these children go through is terrible. I read that she has relapsed in July, the same month that I lost my son to Leukemia. On his ninth birthday. I know your pain, and the torture from not knowing what is next. It is pure hell.

I also read that you are thinking of going to Boston or New York. When my son relapsed, he got a nasty bacterial infection in his lungs and liver. He was in the hospital for two months, and finally I gave up on our local hospital and transferred him to Sloan Kettering Hospital, in Manhatten. I cannot tell you what a wonderful hospital this is. They truly are fantastic. Tyler did not win his battle with his cancer, but this was Gods fate. It hurts everyday to face the day without him...but I believe that I can help others. If you need anything, advice or just someone to talk to please feel free to email me. I am praying for you daily.

If you do a google search on Tyler McGrath you can read about my precious baby. I had a caringbridge sight for him, but on January 1, I closed it out. Keep doing what you are doing, and that is spending everyday letting Whitney know how much you love her...and letting her fight this nasty disease. You are her strength.

Your stories are very similar, as Robyn had the bugs then relapsed. You may want to visit her site it's www.robynbrooks.co.uk.

I hope you have had a fantastic day today, I'm sure Santa brought a whole sack full of presents for you and you sister! I hope you left him some milk and cookies!!

I will keep on checking you site to see how you are doing, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

Love n Hugs

Hi Whitney! I bet you are excited about Christmas coming!! Have you sent a letter to Santa? I am hoping we will get more snow so it will be white here. Your dad said you have lots of snow there. Thinking of you. Much love, Aunt Jane

Hi Whitney - Enjoy the snow. We only got rain here in Rhode Island and it washed away most of the snow we had. So, now we need more so we can have a white Christmas. We're thinking of you and we send our love.
