Journal
Saturday, June 20, 2009 2:33 PM CDT Well, things have been eventful since our last update!
Since then, Alex has been sick a number of times. The first time, right after Christmas, he ended up with Scarlet Fever. At first, we thought it was much worse than that. . . we thought it might be lamictal rash. As anyone who has a kiddo on lamictal/lamotrogine knows, the lamictal rash can indicate an allergic reaction that can be deadly. We were so happy to find out that it was "just" Scarlet Fever!
Over the course of the spring, Alex got a stomach bug two times. With those 3 week-long illnesses, it has been impossible to keep weight on the boy! His neurologist was worried enough before he got sick. We were feeding him pediasure, which he hates with good reason because they taste like chewing an adult multivitamin. Then we switched to regular ice cream shakes in addition to the ice-cream that he eats for dessert every night. He has finally put a little weight back on and is in the 17th percentile. . . still not good enough from his neurologists perspective. He is not a picky eater and eats quite a bit, so I do not know what else we can do. Fortunately, Alex has had a couple of months illness free!
We went to Boston this past Thursday for a check up with Alex's physiatrist, Dr. Nimec. Alex has improved his range of motion in both his arm and his legs in the past 4 months. This is GREAT news! Botox injections have been such a Godsend for Alex, without them, I don’t even want to imagine what he would be doing mobility wise!
Spencer graduated from high school last night and Alex and Carolee presented him with his diploma. WAY TO GO SPENCER!! We are very proud of all of our babies :)

Although I still plan on updating Alex’s site, I am on facebook much more often and update it with pictures of Alex and what is going on in his life. If you would like to catch up that way, just send me a friend request and put Alex in the blurb. That way, even if I don’t recognize your name I will ok it anyway :)
Here are some pictures of my sweet boy…
Here is Alex with his class on a recent field trip.

Alex's puppies, Koda and Moon. He loves to play with them and watch them wrestle!

Alex can swing for HOURS!

Here is Alex and his buddy Jenn.

As always, thank you for checking in on Alex and for all of the prayers! He is one amazing little dude! Have a great summer!
Love, MaryBeth & Alex
