One of Zack's Favorite Songs on the Anniversary of His Second Traumatic Brain Injury
Written Dec 14, 2013 11:33pmDear Friends,
On this anniversary of Zack's second traumatic brain injury, I asked him questions about his future, so we could include his desires on his ISP (Individual Service Plan) when we meet with DDS this Tuesday. Instead of answering the questions, Zack, via his iPad, led me in worship with How He Loves, a song by one of his favorite artists, David Crowder.
I included the lyrics below since they describe what he understands at a deep level-- the love of God.
He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy
When all of a sudden I am unaware of these afflictions
Eclipsed by glory and I realize just how beautiful You are
And how great Your affections are for me
And oh, how He loves us, oh
Oh, how He loves us, how He loves us all
And we are His portion and He is our prize
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes
If His grace is an ocean, we're all sinking
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest I don't have time to maintain these regrets When I think about the way
Oh, how He loves us, Oh, how He loves us, how He loves us all

As we worshipped together tears were streaming down my eyes. My deepest desire is intimacy with God and that I would be able to love people with His love. This a prayer for me, but for Zack it is already true. His intimacy with Christ is so deep; I don't know anyone who is more in love with God. As the song says, he is unaware of his afflictions eclipsed by glory and he realizes just how beautiful God is and how great His affections are for him.
He loves to pray all throughout the day, worship God especially through songs like this one and spread the love of Christ to people. Though we can't talk anymore, our deep spiritual connection remains. I hope that someday I can understand the love of God and extend that love to others like he does. He is an inspiration to me.
Video from the May Center
Written Nov 28, 2013 9:58pmDear Friends,
I ended up in tears after watching this video the May Center sent to us. You will see Zack several times in a black shirt and several times in a red shirt. What a great reminder of my gratitude for this group of people who served Zack day and night for five years.
On this Thanksgiving Day, we also wanted to thank you for serving us, loving us and encouraging us all these years. It means a lot.
P.S. Reminder: Friends of Zack pizza party tomorrow, Fri. Nov. 29 4-6 PM 1626 Mass. Ave. Cambridge.
Thanksgiving and Pizza Party Friday 4-6 PM

During this Thanksgiving season, we are incredibly grateful for a report we received last week from the group of new therapists who are working with Zack. They shared several very encouraging and measurable signs of improvement that have taken place since Zack transitioned into his new living and work situation.
For example, Zack’s right shoulder has been incredibly stiff, but has recently gained 15 more degrees of mobility. His balance has improved by six points on a sophisticated balance scale. His initiation with and use of his right hand has improved as has his initiative when it comes to using a communication device. Zack's overall strength, his problem solving abilities and his ability to navigate around his iPad have all measurably increased.
We are so thankful for this report and amazed by the way his new job at BB&N, his new residence and new therapy situation have been used by God to jump start a new wave of recovery for Zack.
Thank you for your prayers for Zack. Some specific prayer requests going forward include:
1) Continued improvement in the range of motion of Zack’s right shoulder
2) Improved balance (his main doctor is still concerned that he might be hydrocephalic and wants to run another test)
3) Healing of a wound on Zack’s ankle caused by the rubbing of his brace (brace specialist appointment tomorrow).
Thanks for your prayers and your continued love for our family.
Any of Zack’s friends who are home for the holiday, please stop by this Friday, Nov. 29 from 4-6 PM. We are hosting a pizza party for him at our apartment at 1626 Mass. Ave. Cambridge. If you aren’t able to come during this time, please email Tammy at email@example.com, and she will set up another time for you to see him.
