Well, we returned home from NY after Zachs Rituximab, I went off to Calif. and Shane kept the kids during my outing. Unfort. things didn't go as smooth as I had planned..
Zachary developed welt size hives all over his body, his knees, arms elbow (all joints) were swelling up, Shane had no idea what the hell was going on with him, we contacted our local Dr. and she initally said, keep an eye on him, give him beneyadryl (not much she could say at that point, however Shane noticed Zachary getting worse, at this time the little man could not WALK, he was MISERABLE. Immed. Shane took him to the local ER, they saw him and admitted Zachary RIGHT away, and transported him to Georgetown Univ. Hospital where out doctor is her locally! Zachary was treated for a MAJOR ALLERGIC REACTION to the RITUXIMAB, which is an antibody to reduce HAMA, or should I say KILL the B CELLS that allow HAMA. He was inpatient for 3 days, and was given STEROIDS on a VERY serious level and fast! The ywanted to clean out his system! The poor kid was miserable. However he is doing much better now and is home where he should be! It was hard for me to deal w. this mentally, being so far away!
Needless to say, Zachary is MEANER then he has ever been before, it's the steroids, the doctors say.
Dr. Modak, stated he was VERY IMPRESSED at the picture I showed him of Zacharys Reaction and I have since forwarded the Pics. to them for their research and information process of the C. Trial Zach was on, he was child #5 on the study. We have since STOPPED the TRIAL and Zachary will never have Rituximab again! PERIOD!
With Hope, Love, and Faith,
