Yuriy Zmysly's Journal
Written Jul 15, 2013 8:33pmSo as many of you may know, at least the people that follow us on facebook :)
Yuriy and I are expecting a baby girl! We are due in November!
Other than that, Yuriy has been doing amazing, he is still in physical therapy and horseback riding which is really helping him gain back some balance and strength. He gets acupuncture and massage as well. He has done many things since my last update, too many to list.
His vision and speech are about the same but he is healthy and happy so that makes me happy.
(If you don't follow him on facebook yet, look up Cpl Yuriy Zmysly)
Hope you all are doing well and thanks for keeping up with us :)
7th Alive day
Written Jan 9, 2013 2:16pmSeven years today, Yuriy suffered a severe anoxic brain injury after an emergency appendectomy on base. He has come so far and accomplished so much. Every day I am amazed by him. It takes a village to help someone recover from a brain injury. With out the help from our family, friends, doctors, therapists, advocates and organizations we would not be where we are today. Even with this tragic accident happening to us, we are blessed in many ways.
Thank you for your support, prayers and love.
Here is a video of his accomplishments this year :)

As always we have been up to a lot since my last update.
Life has been good to us these past few months. Yuriy is continuing his vision therapy for dizziness and to improve his eyesight. It is more of a home program than anything else, but I see improvements and more importantly, Yuriy does too. Mainly with the eyesight, his dizziness is still there. I think it may be due to his poor vision or it could still be his medications, but in order to prove that theory, we would have to take him off of his muscle relaxers, which for someone with muscle tone and spasticity it would not be pleasant. Although he is one a lower dose of one medication and is off of blood pressure meds all together! YAY!
I received an email in March asking if Yuriy would like to attend a Chicago White Sox game, and since we are from the south side, we of course said yes! Little did we know that Yuriy was going to be the Hero of the game! He got to go to batting practice, meet the players and get autographs! It was such a great day. While we were at batting practice the players would come up to us and thank Yuriy for his service and sign the baseball they had for him, then Konerko gave Yuriy his bat! Yuriy was so happy! The whole team and management were great and so kind, and of course they loved Brando, they even gave him his own ball lol. At the top of the third inning, we were able to go on the field and they announced Yuriy was the hero of the day and his military history, then the whole stadium stood and clapped for him, it was an amazing site, the link to the video my mom took is below. My mom and dad were able to go with us and it was such a nice night out, plus they won! We need to go to more games! So now Yuriy is a full White Sox fan and watches the games at home. It’s good because before he really wasn't into watching sports on TV so now we can watch something other than the history channel, which he also loves.
Here is a video of us on the field during the top of the third inning! http://youtu.be/af15K8EMT8E
Other than that, we are doing well and living our life. I am thinking about writing a blog instead of writing here but I will let you all know when I am going to change it. Thanks for your support!
Stay tuned Yuriy's golden birthday is May 28th this year! Party time!
