21 months post transplant. This is a huge deal for me, for Will too. He has now been healthy as long as he was sick. He was 21 months old when he had his transplant. He was sick for awhile afterwards, but 21 months old marks the time when his life started changing for the better. It feels like he was sick for so very much longer. The time he has been healthy has flown by.
Things have been so busy, and so great! We all love having daddy home again! Our Christmas was great. Will and Jake went to see Santa on the 23rd. Jake screamed, Will loved him. He asked Santa for train tracks. Luckily, Santa knew that already, and was prepared! We saved his geo trax set for one of the last gifts, and his face and reaction were so great. He got the biggest grin on his face. He hasn't stopped playing with it yet! Emily and Jake had a wonderful Christmas as well. I love that they are all old enough and healthy enough to enjoy it.
After Christmas, we went to Louisiana to visit with Russ' family. The kids had so much fun seeing everyone. Russ' dad took the kids out to his camp to go hunting, well to get outside really. Emily loved it. She shot a gun, was with his dad when he shot a deer. She has so many stories now, it's great. The boys spent the entire time in a huge mud puddle. They had so much fun, up until Jake face planted anyway!
Things are getting back to normal again, Emily is back in school, Russ is on leave for a little while longer. It's nice to have him home again.
William had his clinic visit yesterday. It went great, in and out. He had his labs drawn, that all looked just fine. Now when he gets labs drawn, they no longer leave the butterfly(needle for his port) in his chest. They just draw the labs and pull the needle back out. Small things make a huge difference at times! He had a little issue in the middle of last month, his eyes got black and blue and were pretty swollen and itchy. I'm not sure what caused it, but a couple of doses of benedryl helped keep it under control, and he's not had an issue since. He got his second flu shot, he did great for that. He is so proud when he doesn't cry. We tell him it's ok to cry if it hurts, but he gets this big grin on his face when it's over and tells everyone 'I didn't cry!'
He weighed 13 kgs, 28 1/2 lbs down just a touch from his last visit. He was 97 cm, or 37 1/2 inches tall! He has grown so much!
Oh, Will is through with physical therapy now! His therapist will see him one more time in Feb. to be sure he is staying on track, and if he still is doing fine, then we're through. His feet still turn out, but she feels it's more of an orthopedic issue than a muscle issue. It's probably the way his bones grew when he had huge lymph nodes in his groin and couldn't close his legs. It may correct itself in time, or it may be something he'll have to deal with. He is very steady on his feet and rarely stumbles, so I think he'll do just fine.
Things are going great for Will, for all of us. I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop at times, but I'm enjoying every single second of all these good times. We're going to sign Will up for soccer this spring, he's going to preschool this fall. He's just a regular little boy now. Love to all, Sarah
