Waseem's Journey

Waseem is a 3-year-old boy from Indiana/>/> who was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma (cancer) on September 10, 2006. Since then, it was predicted that he would have to undergo 6 sessions of chemotherapy with stem cell harvest after the second session, then radiation and then a stem cell transplant.

The days leading up to the diagnosis were extremely hard on his body and spirit and they continue to be difficult, but there are times when we see glimpses of the healthy and happy Waseem on his good days. We will try to document his changing condition every day until his cancer is in remission, inshallah (God willing).

Thank you for taking this journey with us,

Latest Journal Update

Happy 12th Birthday, Baby!

Asalaamoalaikum and Hello Everyone!
Today is Waseem's birthday! It is approximately 2:39 a.m., and though I can't sleep, I'm thankful to be able to add this positive update on Waseem. Not much has happened health-wise for Waseem, thank God. He's been growing steadily and is now one size away from having to shop in the young men's department. There are times that even though I may be mad at him for being defiant and stubborn, I thank Allah every time that he's even here to bring about these feelings in me, and the new talents he's developing; namely art. This year, I'm trying to build his art supply collection so he can grow in his artistic skill. He loves to paint, and of course, draw. I've come to notice that though he may not always verbalize how he feels or what he thinks, he's communicating through his art (pictures will be posted as soon as I have them). So, the fact that he's here, to me, is truly a reason to celebrate. He's been my best teacher as far as patience, perseverance, love, and the power or prayer when we thought we might lose him. I knew the moment I looked into his big, brown eyes that there was nothing in this world I wouldn't do to make sure he was okay. Before him, I was working and studying just because it was the right thing to do, but when he came along, all of my efforts finally had a purpose and meaning. So, at 6:29 this morning, I will remember the moment this wonderful, not-quite-so-little person who came and changed my life, and I am a better person for it. Happy Birthday, my super hero! :-*

How beautiful. Nikki. Our priorities change as we go through life. A wise person knows enough to change his or her path in the face of those priorities. You are one fantastic mother.
