My Story

Welcome to Wanda Gunn's CaringBridge website, designed to keep friends and family updated about her journey. Please visit often to read the latest journal entries and write her a note in the guestbook.

On Wednesday, February 9, Mrs. Gunn saw her primary physician complaining of lack of appetite and feeling bloated. He ordered blood work and a scan; she met with other doctors, had additional blood work and more scans.  On Tuesday, February 22, she had surgery for primary peritoneal cancer. The surgeon was pleased with the surgery and felt that he removed about 80% of the cancerous tissue.  She did well following the surgery and after a brief stay in the hospital went home.  However, she experienced problems eating and was readmitted to the hospital on Monday, March 21 to deal with the nutritional issues.  Additional scans have revealed that the source of the cancer is the pancreas.

She had her first chemo treatment on Friday, April 1. So far she has tolerated the chemo with no adverse reactions. She remains hospitalized to deal with the nutrition problems.

Her spirits are good.  She’s Wanda Gunn - the only person we know who can look good in a hospital gown!  Although she does not have the energy for visitors right now, she does enjoy reading your cards, emails, and guestbook posts. Cards and notes of encouragement can be mailed to Wanda Gunn, DuBuis Hospital, One Saint Mary Place, Shreveport, LA 71101.

Please pray for her and for the doctors, nurses and dieticians who are taking care of her.
