My life took an 'interesting turn' on Oct 19, 2007 when I was diagnosed with metastatic esophageal cancer. How roles have changed... A week prior, I was a fellow in Hematology / Medical Oncology seeing patients with cancer. Today, I myself have become a 29 year-old cancer patient.

I am moving on in the journey as a cancer survivor. I recently had my chemotherapy port (embedded under my skin) removed, leaving behind a macho-looking scar (that's what I would like to think anyways).

Also back to work seeing patients since my blood counts have fully recovered. Feels really good to be back at clinical work. A number of people have asked whether it feels awkward seeing patients soon after going through cancer treatments. I think I am comfortable enough with my own diagnosis/illness, that it does not seem awkward at all. It certainly would be interesting to see esophageal cancer patients, though I don't foresee having any traumatic flashbacks.

Feeling well, gaining weight, and looking forward to going back to Malaysia for a vacation!
