Well, I really surprised myself and actually made it the whole 39 miles!!
I had a great weekend with Jess and Pam - lots of laughs - I felt so lucky to do this walk with such great women!! I also met a few other very inspiring women. One woman was in my exact situation - 3 kids, just finishing radiation - and another told me all about her mother who is a 20 year survivor and had breast cancer when she was Isabel's age.
My feet are incredibly sore, but I'm glad I pushed myself. It feels symbolic, in a way, that I did the walk a year ago and then went through surgery, chemo, and radiation, and did the walk again. It was almost like proving to myself that the treatments didn't bring me down as much as I maybe thought they did. Or maybe proving that it didn't take anything away from me to go through all of that.
It felt good and I had a wonderful time. Between the 3 of us who walked together, we raised nearly $7000 for research and to help under-insured women with breast cancer. Over all, the Boston walk raised close to 6 million dollars. This feels very important to me, as research dollars are what helped bring the drug Herceptin to the forefront in the last few years. Herceptin has greatly improved my prognosis and survival statistics. I'm thankful for it every day.
Anyway, thanks everyone for the support....I'm off for a much needed good night's sleep!!
