Wednesday "Morning", Day 12
Written Oct 24, 2012 5:30pmSorry the update is so late! It's been a very busy day. Dad is walking more, talking more, and is just that much closer to heading home! Amazing!!! He has weaned off his IV regimen completely and is no longer needing the supplemental oxygen for activities, but at this point in time it's all about "pacing" as his physical therapist says. Mom gave Dad his first shot of a medication that he will be taking at home, and apparently drew no tears. :) SO, the plan at this point is to continue to monitor him, manage pain, and begin discharge planning! Between two occupational therapists and several very handy sons we are sure he will be safe and well cared for. Thank you everyone for your support and generosity with this process. Dad is eager to be home and we are eager to have him there. Perhaps we will make it in time for our annual cider pressing after all! More to come! Blessings to you all.
Tuesday Morning: Day 11
Written Oct 23, 2012 11:38amDad's new 7th floor medical team arrived bright and early to find mom curled up in a sleeper chair by Dad's bedside. They discussed plans for his current medications and weaning him off of oxygen. He has started doing a bit of walking to the bathroom with a walker and physical therapy walked with him this morning. At this time the goal is to build up his endurance and conquer a few stairs to simulate the ones we have at home. He has been doing amazingly well, been in high spirits and we are quite proud of him. He as also continued to express his gratitude for all of your prayers, encouraging messages and letters. Hopefully we can even make it home in time for our scheduled cider pressing. What a miracle! Will update again soon.
Monday Evening, Day 10
Written Oct 22, 2012 8:33pmWe have made the move! We are officially two floors closer to the ground, getting physically closer and more mentally prepared to head home. We miss the staff upstairs already but have become immediately fond of our new nurse who rescued Dad from a small room with a loud neighbor! We are now enjoying a little bit larger space by a window and Dad is watching the presidential debate with Micah and Torin. We don't have any major medical updates for you all tonight, perhaps no news is good news at this point. Also, we have added a few pictures to the blog. This is not to embarrass or reveal Dad's privacy, rather to help many of you appreciate how far he has come! We have discussed this all with him as well and he has agreed that having some visuals will help share this journey who haven't been with us first hand.Lastly, we wanted to make a special note to those of you who have asked specific questions or made requests on the blog. We truly are trying to keep up with everyone as best as we can and appreciate your patience with us. Specifically in regard to visitors: at this point in time, Dad is well enough to have visitors, so if you are feeling compelled to stop by you can text Ryan at 206-434-1659 or just come on over and ask the front desk for directions to his room and they should help you find us. Please be patient though with Dad's healing and continued need for rest. In other words, he may be napping when you stop by. :) Will update again tomorrow, hopefully he will begin therapy and start requiring less oxygen which is one of our goals before transitioning home. Thank you all as always for your love and support. More tomorrow! God Bless!
