Tianna Schilling's Journal
Written Nov 27, 2013 1:54pmYesterday Tianna had her 4 month checkup with an MRI and doctor visit. The results were great with no sign of cancer! She also graduated from physical and occupational therapy this week. She still struggles with balance, but has made huge strides in that area, as well as meeting her other goals. That means that she may also quit wearing the braces on her feet. As you can see, we have an awful lot to be thankful for. God has been so faithful during the past 2 years and has kept Tianna strong and with a positive attitude. Wishing all of your families a very joyous holiday season.
MRI Results are good!
Written Jul 26, 2013 3:48pmTianna and I spent the last 2 days going to multiple appointments at Children's Hospital. We started out yesterday with a hearing test to make a final assessment after treatments. There isn't much change which means there is definite hearing loss in the right ear. The audiologist suggested trying a hearing aid out to see what Tianna thinks of it, so we have one ordered. That was followed by the MRI of her brain and spine. It was somewhat of an ordeal because she needs to be hooked up to an IV and that's a lot more challenging now that the port is gone. Because her veins are hard to find, they had to attempt it 3 times before it worked. She was not a happy camper! I think next time we might look into using laughing gas or something to make it easier. Later in the day we met with the doctor to get the good news about the MRI results. Praise the Lord! She also had an echo cardiogram and some breathing tests, with good results.
Today she had a neuro-psych exam which is recommended following treatments. She sat through lots and lots of questions and games. I have an appointment coming up to discuss the results. It was suggested to make an appointment for surgery to remove the lumbar shunt that was put in in Chicago. She's also supposed to see a specialist to get her vocal cords looked at because of the nerve damage she had and the swallowing issues. We're hoping to get all of this done before school starts. Yikes!
Last week we were on our annual family vacation in Chippewa Falls. Tianna was feeling great and had so much more fun than last year. It was so hard then to see her sitting around and unable to go in the lake and have the energy to play with her cousins. This time she was in the lake every day and she went tubing. She's put aside the hats and scarves and is sporting a cute, short haircut. All is good!
Written May 25, 2013 5:45pmIt's been quite a while, so I wanted to post an update. A couple of weeks ago we had Play Day at our school and it was so good to see Tianna participating and enjoying the events. Physically, she still isn't where she used to be but she sure has come a long way! She still goes to therapy each week and they have been very pleased with her progress. Our main goal for the next few weeks is to get her riding her bike again. That's still very hard for her because of balance challenges, but we know she can do it. She wants to be riding with her cousins at the cabin this summer.Last weekend was the Make-A-Wish Ball. What an extraordinary event! It was a black-tie affair and the organization got tuxes for Steve and Zach. It was held at River Centre in St. Paul and attended by about 1000 people. Tianna was part of the program and went on stage to play piana with Keri Noble, somewhat of a local celebrity. Keri played and sang "Love Story" by Taylor Swift and Tianna played intro and outro pieces that Keri wrote. She did a great job and didn't really seem nervous. The evening raised over $650,000. Once again we were amazed by this organization and the many generous people who support it.
