Tuesday 6/3 Update

Psalm 145:13 "The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made."

Resting in that promise today.  God is faithful and loving... what a comfort for us.  We are praising him for the comfort that he gives us and the way he upholds us in all our hardest of times.  We are praising him also for how he uses people as a means of his grace and comfort to us.

Rebekah has had an absolutely amazing day today.  Her storming seemed to subside overnight and today has been a mostly peaceful day.  During rounds this morning, the doctors decided to continue weaning her off some meds to help her have more alertness and awareness.  They have been going slow with the weaning process in order to not cause withdrawals.  Rebekah was doing really well breathing more than the ventilator settings, so they decided to try extubation.  Early this afternoon, Rebekah came off the ventilator for the first time in over 3 weeks.  She has been breathing on her own ever since.  Having the tube out resolved several smaller issues with her care (tongue protection, positioning on her sides, dental care, and reduced agitation).  Rebekah has been much more active with opening her eyes and moving her arms and legs than any other day.  She also has been more responsive (calming down quickly) to me when she gets worked up.  Please praise God with us about all this improvement we have seen over the last 24 hours.  Please pray that she is able to stay off the vent and that she continues to do so well.  Pray also that her storming is gone.

Sarah had another great day.  It is amazing to me that she has recovered so quickly from so many injuries.  She continues to do great with whatever the therapist puts in front of her.  She has been sleeping well at night and having great awareness during waking hours.  I don't think she had any medicine today and she didn't complain about pain (that is a miracle alone).  Her appetite continues to improve and she is getting some better with her short-term memory functions.  She still has some periods where she has mix-ups around what day something happened and sometimes make comments that don't make sense.  We are thanking God for all the progress that she has made in these three weeks.  The nurses have said that the general plan is for Sarah to be discharged this Friday.  We are waiting on official word that this is the plan, but it appears reasonable based on the goals and all.  Pray that everything goes smoothly during this transition and that we are able to handle her needs at home.  Pray also that her short-term memory continues to heal.

We continue to be so thankful for all your prayers.  Thank you all for the many other ways that you have been a blessing to our family.

In Christ,

David

Dear Brown family ,
Since I learned of your struggles yesterday, I having praying for your family from Fosters, Alabama. Our family lost our youngest daughter following a car accident last September. I can't imagine your trying to grieve the loss of your son while your daughter is still battling towards recovery. I will especially pray for you to see drastic improvement in her condition everyday that only God can accomplish in His Mercy. I rejoice in that you are providing inspiration to many to become closer to God and even bringing some to salvation. Loving prayers sent your way.

My name is Rebekah Ward, and I have an older sister named Sarah Watson. We are both from Yuma Arizona. on May 22nd 2004 her and I were involved in a horrific car accident that changed our lives forever. I was flown to palm springs in California. My sister Sarah was flown to st. Joseph hospital In phoenix Arizona. We both suffered traumatic brain injuries and many wounds both external and internal.we were both in a coma and our chances of survival was slim. My parents and other brothers and sister all were in a desperate time. With much support and prayer we are safe to say Jesus heals, and prayer is so strong. we stand here ten years later and have defeated all that was told we would never accomplish.we both are married and have children of our own. Your family's story being so coincidental really touched my sister and I. We have prayed for your family and stand for a full recovery. God bless.

I am praising God right at this moment for the good news. I have chills on my arms. It seems that God has heard our prayers for these beautiful girls and has answered them in the way we asked. It is always his will. The improvement in Rebekah has to be the intervention of God. I do believe with all my heart that the doctor's grim reports on Rebekah are going to be swept away by God and good reports are coming your way. Yesterday was the first example that she is going to come through this better that what the doctors thought. I just feel this is the beginning to her return. I know these are strictly my opinions, but if am such a firm believer in God and the power of prayer. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN GOD IS STEERING THE WAY. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS ALL IN THIS BEAUTIFUL FAMILY. IN CHRIST'S HOLY LOVE!
