My Story

Welcome Family & Friends to Sydney's Website.

July 18, 2005 Sydney Abigail Meekma, 18 months old was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. I will be documenting our journey to update our family and friends and for other families who will later be affected by this disease, so they will know what to expect and see that children are survivors.

Friday-  Sydney is doing pretty good today. She had  1 high fever yesterday.  So this morning they followed up with a CXRAY and a ultrasound.  Just to make sure they are not missing anything.
SYdney was playing trivia for kids with her Grandma.  She really enjoyed that.  She loved all the praise we gave her for being super smart.  Syd loves praise!  What girl doesn't? We are back to playing balloons with gloves.  Dad & Grandma have competitions to see who can make the biggest balloons.  We make the most of our supplies here.
ANC today is 350 just a little closer to our goal of 500.  Maybe tomorrow.
Today's favorite food-  Whole wheat bagel and applesauce and handful grapes.  So glad we are eating.  Syd is starting to look pretty slim.  The dietician wants to start her on tube feedings but the Oncologist rejected the plan and feels when she goes home and is off the antibiotics her appetite will pick up and we can avoid this at this point in time.  I agree.
