Steve’s Story

Hello!

My story began in early March of this year, when I was diagnosed with AML, or acute myloid leukemia.

Since then I've had several chemotherapy sessions, and the most recent one at the Cleveland Clinic was successful in putting my leukemia into remission.

My journey continues next week, when I will receive a donor's stem cells.  This will offer the hope of a cure to my leukemia.

The good news is that the donor is almost a perfect match.

I'm pretty much back to normal as far as how I'm feeling.  My own marrow is making the right amount of white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets.

For the transplant they will suppress my marrow just enough to make room for the donor stem cells.  Eventually the donor cells will completely take over, and I won't have any of my own left.

This is a good thing, because the donor's stem cells will recognize and destroy the leukemic cells.

Today, October 13, 2009, I can honestly say that I feel great!

I'm looking forward to continuing the journey to complete health.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, and may God bless all of you!
