Sr. Carol Update - November 19, 2013

Dear Friends,

I made a trip to the IHM Motherhouse last night because Sr. Carol’s condition had taken a drastic change since late Saturday.  Her cancer is spreading and there is some thought it has gone to her brain.  She is under hospice care at the current time.  She complains about headaches, is not interested in eating much, sleeps most of the day and is not too communicative at all.  She is no longer able to receive visitors.  It is evident that our beloved Sr. Carol is quickly approaching that moment of going home to the Lord.  The nursing staff and sisters at the Motherhouse are giving her exceptional care and loving attention.  It was moving to see their interaction with her.

Please join me in keeping Sr. Carol in your prayers.

I will update this site as information is made available to us.

Know of my prayers.

In Christ,

Msgr. Mike

Sr. Carol,
This was on the wall at my doctor’s office and I felt like it was written just for you.

What Cancer Cannot Do
It cannot cripple love, shatter hope, corrode faith or destroy peace.
It cannot kill friendships, suppress memories or silence courage.
And most importantly, it cannot invade the soul, steal eternal life or conquer the Spirit.

I thank you for being the glorious person that you are!

Love, Marianne

What an inspiration she has been to me and my family! She is the reason I have gotten involved a St. Joan. A few years ago at a trunk or treat I saw her struggling by herself to put away Halloween decorations and walked over to see if she needed help - she said sure and the next thing I know she had me joining a few different committees. I could never say no to this wonderful lady. As she gets ready to celebrate with the Lord, I am deeply saddend that I will not have her around to talk to - I will miss her hugs and her smile but it will live in me forever. Sr. Carol your spirit will never die - all I can say is thank you Dear Jesus for letting this wonderful person be a part of our lives. Jesus I know why you want her with you - you got a gem in this wonderful spirited lady. She has taught me a lot in both how to live and how to handle conflict with grace and dignity. Her spirit in facing this challenge has been amazing. Sr. Carol as you go home to the Lord - know you will be missed and how much we love you. You have never left our prayers and you will be in them always.

Sister Carol. You have inspired me so much in my journey after losing my husband. My faith has been strengthened with help from you and your service to St. Joan's. While your light is dimming in our world, in heaven Jesus has his arms wide open to receive you and give you a big hug to thank you for a job well done and a true example of discipleship in the world. I take comfort in the fact you will be watching over us as you always have. I told Rich, my husband, to meet you. He'll be the one with the gift of blarney. May God hold you in the palm of his hands!

Our thoughts and prayers are continually with you now as you finish your journey home to the Lord. Your work is almost done. Thank you for teaching all of us to appreciate and continue to fight for life, love, laughter, peace, while bringing us ever closer to the Lord. We love you, and wish you God's peace and loving embrace for a job exceptionally well done.

Sr. Carol continues to be a source of strength and courage even in these last days. When I saw her while accompanying my sister during her cancer appointment a couple of weeks ago, she still kept her smile, inquired how my sister was doing. When she saw my sister, she let her know that she was praying for her. Even during her own suffering, she still thought of others and their pain. My sister told her she was praying for her too. Thank you Carol, for being my sister Carolyn's inspiration while she fights her cancer. May God Bless you on your journey home.

Sr. Carol, you were such a light in our parish when you ministered at Our Lady of Loretto. You can be assured of many prayers from Redford, where you are remembered with love.
