Our tiny Sophie is nearly two years old! Her second birthday will be June 8, and her two-year checkup will be sometime that week as well. Sophie has been happy and healthy lately, so there hasn't been much to update on...
Sophie's speech is still fairly unclear, but she is definitely a talker. She has a good-sized vocabulary, and is starting to put two words together like "I stuck," "Hi sheep," or "Stack block." She calls my mom Maymee and my dad Pa-Pa, and can identify family members in photos. She still loves to talk on the phone and says hi to many, many strangers! A good portion of her day is spent pointing and naming objects, from the moment she wakes up I can hear her in her room, "hippo...coat...book...diaper"
She is finally developing a longer attention span, spending a lot of time with puzzles, shape sorters, blocks and of course books. Sophie's teacher was pleased this week to see that she has started some pretend play, feeding a baby doll, "cooking" with dishes, etc. She also has a lot of fun dressing up, putting on hats, sunglasses, my shoes...
I can tell that Sophie has gotten a little taller, since every day it seems like she can reach a new counter or bumps her head on something new. However, I doubt that she has gained much, if any, weight. Her celiac disease test will be redone at her upcoming visit and of course she will also be weighed then. She will also have her annual visit to the NICU Follow-Up Clinic in June, so they may have some new thoughts on her
itty-bittyness.
I will most likely post some birthday party pictures, but unless anything surprising comes up at either of her doctor visits...I think we will finally cut the cord from caringbridge after her birthday! Thank you to everyone who has so faithfully followed Sophie's story and kept her in your thoughts through so many tough times.
