Sophia’s Story

Site created on May 27, 2010

Hi.  I am creating this so maybe its easier for people to check in on Sophia.  She was hiking with her roomates and wanted to take a photo near the top of a waterfall.  She was near the top and was crossing a small gap in the rocks.  She stepped onto some mossy/slippery surface and fell roughly 150-200 ft.  She's in rough shape, so please keep her in your prayers.  We'll do our best to keep you posted.  They dont allow phones in the ICU waiting room, so this is our best effort to communicate. Check the Journal for updates.

Prayers are so greatly appreciated! We can use all the help we can get.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Chelo Canino

Lots has been happening in Sophie and Luke world over the months since we last updated.... but I will fill you in on the big important stuff,

Luke and I got engaged on June 2nd in his parents backyard decorated in a VERY romantic candle lit dinner setting... and of course I said YES!!! I'm finally going to be Mrs. Cheney! We are so excited and are in the midst of trying to set a date and get stationed down in Florida to be closer to our family. Very exciting stuff is happening! On July 15th @ 1pm, I had reconstructive surgery done on my abdomen to correct the very large scar that was left on my belly after all the massive surgeries that I had to have in order to save my life last year. I honestly thought I was never going to be able to get, much less afford, this much needed cosmetic surgery, but my silent tear filled prayers over the months were FINALLY heard!! I couldn't feel happier and more blessed right now. All this pain that I am going thru right now is without a doubt worth every second! My end result will hopefully be the last piece that I need to feel the closest to 100%, back to my old self, as I can get...   so wish me luck everybody!!
