Last week the Acoustical Society of America held a symposium in Sid’s memory during their conference in Rhode Island.  “Psychological and Physiological Acoustics: Temporal Processing, Compression, and Cochlear Implants:  Session in Honor of Sid P. Bacon” discussed Sid’s scientific contributions to the psychoacoustics field.

Thank you to the presenters, Brian Moore, Jungmee Lee, Marjorie Leek, Frederic Apoux and Eric Healy, Christopher Brown, and Andrew Oxenham, all of whom did a fantastic job (although we joke that we only understood 5% of what was said).  A special thanks to cochairs Neal F. Viemeister and Walt Jesteadt and everyone else involved in organizing the symposium.  And another thank you to Jungmee Lee for creating a beautiful poster remembering Sid that was displayed during the session (you can find it at sid-bacon.last-memories.com under “Team Bacon”, although unfortunately we were only able to post a small version).

It was wonderful that so many of his colleagues could attend.  Sid would have felt very honored by the entire event.  He truly enjoyed his work but he also really valued all of the relationships he had with his colleagues and the friendships he made.  And in the last two years all of the support shown by the psychoacoustics chapter of Team Bacon really illustrated what “ear” friends he had.
